Shepherd Group Brass Band News

On Sunday 29th September young brass players from around the city (and further afield) took part in 'Big Brass Day 2', a project led by Nymaz and Brass Bands England featuring soloists from the famous Black Dyke Band. Katrina Marzella (Baritone) and Daniel Thomas (Euphonium) led a day of repertoire, masterclasses, Q&A and performances for thirty five participants, ending with a showcase concert. The event was hosted by the Shepherd Group Brass Band at their bandroom at Monks Cross.

The next Brass Day will take place in December and will feature a brass quintet from the Halle Orchestra. Form more information visit www.nymaz.org.uk

The Shepherd Group Brass Bands have been presented with Brass Band England’s inaugural ‘Social Impact Award’. The award, which recognised the national contributions brass bands make to communities, was presented at the Brass Band England annual conference on Saturday 28th September.

“A major part of our contribution is via our Brass Academy - where we educate and facilitate brass playing from scratch. Our award-winning Youth Band provide a top flight outlet for young members of society to fulfil their musical potential, with many players aspiring to join our senior, flagship ensemble”
