Resources and Land

The more resources we have, the more stuff we have, when we have a lot of stuff we create a lot of garbage, the garbage takes up a lot of our land. Land we could use for much more productive things, for example farming, if we have a very large population we need many farms to grow our food, too feed the people. To control our amount of waste taking up our land, we can use our waste, for example if we turn our garbage into soil it will be useful and save us land. Chopping up the plastics and paper that we throw in the trash can create a bio fuel that can be useful for transportation, some vehicles can be run on biofuels instead of gas. Reusing things that nobody wants anymore can leave us with things we could use and not fill spaces of our land with, for example in Edmonton they take old TVs and get things such as led that they can re-use out of them. This needs to be done all around Canada, to save land. Canada's population is growing, and soon we will start running out of resources if we don't manage our land the right way To save resources we can stop cutting down so many trees, by not cutting down so many trees we save oxygen, and have cleaner air. also instead of printing out so many papers, we can share it over the internet, that saves us paper and trees. also instead of using trees for so many things, we can use things like plastic and metal. Taking up the land for garbage is also taking over many animals habitats, and now the land with all the waste is their home, which they could get intoxicated from, by eating moldy food, or things that are not food, they could also get things wrapped around them, and possibly if they cant get it off them, suffocate or grow around the plastic or piece of waste. A solution to this is conserving areas from infrastructure for the animals to live in. The more land we take up, the less land we get to use for essential things we need, for example crops, trees and less land to use for industries. Canada needs to take these actions, or we could not have a sustainable future, reducing and reusing are the most mentioned ways to save land and resources, but also recycling.

Urban sprawl and cities

We all know cities have a lot of people in them, but we are still building houses, which are taking up a lot of our land. Cities also a lot of the time have a growing population, so we have to keep building more homes for all the family's already in the city, but also for all the immigrants coming in, instead of taking up a lot of land building houses, we can build apartments and build more up and not down to save us land. We will need many immigrants in the future, to help us fill in jobs, so we can encourage immigrants to live in apartments, for their job, or offer different deals. In major cities, such as Toronto, the transportation is getting pretty bad as well as traffic and the level of fossil fuels released into the atmosphere everyday! To fix this problem, we can use electric instead of gas cars and have more subways and street cars. Electric cars may cost more to buy, but in the long run you save money, from the cost of fuel. Electric cars are also better and healthier for the environment, they don't submit as much fossil fuels as gas cars, which defiantly helps a huge international problem, climate change. If we just stay with gas cars and don't change anything eventually we will melt most if not all ice burgs, by climate change. By melting all these we harm a lot of species, we also will be flooding our oceans, and the water will cover a lot of islands.

Sustainable resources

Sustainability of resources is a big part of cities if you have a big population. when you have a big population you need lots of food to feed the people. Farm land is being taken over by cities, suburbs and industries. but there is a solution to that, we can have urban farms! Urban farms in this case are green houses on top of buildings, to grow the crops we use a method called hydroponics, which is a liquid with lots of nutrients in it, to help the plants grow sustainable and effectively. having these urban farms in cities allows food to be local and fresh, we can avoid the cost of shipping from other places and it doesn't take up any land! you also don't need soil for hydroponics and by having these green houses we create more jobs and it creates volunteer opportunities as well as a great way to learn for the community.

If we take up all our land with buildings and cities we wont have any land to have trees for oxygen and clean air, habitats for animals, less industries because there wont be enough space but also no farms to grow our food. if we don't use the previously mentioned method of having urban farms, we will have to ship all our food in, which could come to serious costs. But also because we are not growing any resources to sell to other countries, we are not making any money or enough money.

SOULUTION: plant many trees around the city to create cleaner air and a greener city, but also help with how many fossil fuels are put out, because trees can reduce that level. Also having urban farms will help us feed our population and not have to ship all the food in.

cleaner city

Renewable energy sources: wind power, solar panels, tidal energy, hydro electricity. Renewable energy is our future, eventually we will run out of non-renewable energy sources and will be forced into these new ways. Renewable energy is much cleaner and does not influence climate change.
