Free speech as the bedrock of liberty ERASMUS+, KA1 TWO STAGE TRAINING COURSE

Two stages Training Courses allow to draw a parallel between the two countries (Malta and Ukraine), to identify the causes of the emergence of hate speech and adopt experience of resolution. Since 2013, there is No Hate Speech Movement in the Malta and Ukraine. This project stands against the hate speech, racism and discrimination in their online expression, promoting equality, dignity, human rights and diversity.

Objectives

  • to build more positive attitude towards the European project and its values in the peace building process
  • to increase the sense of responsibility, understanding and acceptance of minorities and migrants among the target audiences
  • to gain new knowledge in media topic through the social dialogue and develop new tools
  • to draw a parallel between the two countries (Malta and Ukraine) through two stages of Training Courses
  • to develop skills for social work, NGOs and government
  • to promote diversity and dialog between different cultures but with the same problems
  • to increase international capacity of partner organizations
  • to contribute the gender equality among European and partner countries youth

Weather

Beginning of June is usually quite warm, temperatures varies from 20 to 25°C. It might be a little chilly in the morning and evening. The weather can vary, so, please, do check the weather forecast for Malta before packing your suitcases. The majority of the courses will be held indoors, but we will work outdoors as well.

Venue

The venue for the training is situated in the picturesque village of Marsaxlokk, within walking distance from the charming quayside and a sandy beach. Marsaxlokk is located in the southeastern part of Malta. Its bay is memorable for many colourful traditional fishing boats called “luzzu” and its quayside is always vibrant with the fishermen activities.

To get to the venue

Take bus X4 from the Malta International Airport to Valletta and from Valletta to Marsaxlokk - bus 81.

We kindly ask you to choose the most economical and Eco-friendly way of transport (eg. student fares, low cost airlines, 2nd class trains, etc.). Also, be aware of your travel cost limitation.

Accommodation consists of 2, 3 or 4-bedded rooms with shared bathrooms on each floor. The dining area and seminar room are fully air conditioned and each bedroom has an electric cooling fan.

Cultural evenings! During the 1st stage of the project stay we will all organise cultural evenings where all countries will present, how unique they are (dances, songs, food, traditions, ect.) The cultural presentation will have to be prepared together with other participants from each country and last about 15 minutes. Participants are welcome to make it as creative as they can. Participants can play music, sing songs, play quizzes, teach others national dances, explain traditions, invite for a national food, launch performances and competitions. Therefore, participants are asked to bring some typical food from their native countries.

Weather

In Ukrainian capital Kyiv the weather in September is mild at 15-17°C: afternoons can be somewhat warm with average high temperatures reaching 19 -23°C , whereas overnight temperatures are generally lower, around 10-13°C.

What to bring

All the participants are asked to bring multi usable water bottles.

Please, bring all the necessary shower items, towels, flip-flops.

We recommend to take some outdoor shoes, comfortable cloth. Please, take shoes or slippers for the indoor.

Participants are asked to bring their private hygiene necessities, any medicine that they use.

Participant Profile

We are looking for participants who:

- age 18+

- Have previous experience in social or political activities; an active social life; interest in social sphere

- Awareness in media, social media, photography, polls-making will be taken into account

- Fluency in English will be plus

- Participants are asked to bring own laptops for working online

- Participants with specific talents (painting, dancing, singing, etc.) or workshop/presentation on related topic are welcome to share them with others

- Bring positive energy and enthusiasm

- Participants are expected to take part in all the activities and both stages of the project

Important!

Please, be aware that it is compulsory for all participants to have travel insurance covering the whole duration of your stay in the Malta/Ukraine, including the days of your arrival and departure. Travel insurance cannot be covered by us, but you are obliged to arrange it. Please bring your European Health Insurance Card (the blue one) in case of some emergency.

If you have any special needs (allergies, diets, disabilities, disadvantages, etc.), please state them clearly in the Application Form so we can arrange everything in advance and we do not meet the problem of solving your special needs problem after your arrival to the Malta/Ukraine.

Money reimbursement

100% of accommodation, food, and travel costs will be covered with the support of Erasmus+. Participants will pay their tickets to the venue and will be reimbursed during the second stage of the Project - in Kyiv (Ukraine), in September, 2019.

The ones who will not come to the second stage - won’t receive reimbursement!

It is important to remember about travel cost limits in order to be reimbursed. It is necessary for participants to have travel and health insurance (NOT reimbursable).

Travel must be economy/2nd class for a plane, train or bus ticket. No taxi costs will be refunded.

For reimbursement participants have to collect and save TRAVEL DOCUMENTS: boarding passes, invoices and receipts.

Objectives

- to improve photographic, interviewing and communication skills during the practical workshops. We are eager to hold the idea of resistance to the hate speech through the virtual exhibition;

- to develop ways to deal with hate speech, adopt the new techniques and apply in daily life

- to prevent the spread of stereotypes, prejudices and other discriminatory utterances

- to make several reportage using real people from the real world

- to raise awareness on the topic of intercultural communication and the importance of tolerance in today's multicultural world.

Partners

Every partner has to accomplish the following tasks:

  • Select participants according to their motivation and interest, as well as gender balance and target group. The activities will develop in a fun and interactive way, with a strong focus on intercultural interaction
  • Support participants on each stage of preparation process
  • Prepare the group for an intercultural experience by providing basics information about the Erasmus+ program, Youthpass, details about the TC and guidance for the activities that are to be prepared
  • Intercultural evening – should be as interactive and fun as possible. The presentation should be personalised, focused on the themes (e.g. media and politics studies, social issues, diversity etc), and if possible, should involve the rest of the participants
  • A presentation video briefly introducing the group members
  • Writing report of the project
