The West's Largest Coal Plant May Close By: Bobby Magill

The largest coal-fired power plant in the west could close later this year. This is a major symbolic blow to the future of coal as America's main electric power grid. The low natural prices of gas and the rising costs of generating electricity using coal make it too expensive to operate the coal plant.
Coal-fired power plants are the biggest individual climate polluters in the country, and they're failing to coal's biggest competitor- cheap, plentiful natural gas flooding the country because of fracking. The owner's of the power plant decision to consider its future is based on the changing economics of energy- primarily the low cost of natural gas and other resources.
Compared to coal, natural gas pollutes the atmosphere with about half as much carbon dioxide when it is used to generate electricity. The fracking boom flooded the US which cheap natural gas in the middle of the last decade. Nobody in the country is building new coal plants because they're too expensive.

Summary of article: The west's largest coal plant may be closing because of a variety of reasons. This is a major symbolic blow to the future of coal as the backbone of America's electric power gris. It is closing because the low natural gas prices and the rising costs of generating electricity using coal make it too expensive to operate the plant. Gas is cheaper and way easier to obtain than coal. Coal-fired power plants are the biggest individual climate polluters in the country's, and they're failing due to natural gas that is flooding the country which is both cheap and plentiful. The use of coal has declined in the past decade: Electricity generated using coal declines by 32 percent nationwide, while natural gas skyrocketed 159 percent.
Analysis: This content is noteworthy because it affects us today. Coal and natural gas are things that we use every single day. Whether it is for heat or for fueling our cars, it is a valuable resource that most of us rely on. The main thing that we have to do is to preserve our greenhouse gases. Trump, who is promoting the idea of fracking and coal, doesn't like the idea of greenhouse gases because he thinks that climate change is a hoax, however, as us environmentalists know, it is troublingly real. The lower prices of natural gas lead to the addition of more natural gas fueled power generation throughout the country.
I picked this article because I know that we are in trouble with Trump as president. He doesn't believe in global warming, so he doesn't care much about the impact of things and resources on the environment. This is scary and that is why I chose this because I am very interested about what is happening to the environment now that he is president. I hope that I learn more about this topic so that I can do my best to prevent and illuminate my usage of coal and oil.
