A Summer of Learning Kleinschmidt interns share their experiences

For more than 50 years, Kleinschmidt has provided engineering, regulatory, and environmental consulting services to energy companies and government agencies across North America. We were pleased to several interns with us for the summer of 2019 to learn more about our business and to help them as they pursue their various career paths.

Meet Levi Emery. He is a senior at Boston University and will graduate in May 2020 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.

"This summer I have been interning for Kleinschmidt out of their Pittsfield, Maine office. I have had an amazing experience here. I have been working with experienced professionals Lucas DeLong and Mark Boucher in the electrical engineering group, where I was welcomed with open arms. I have had numerous conversations with them about their experiences in this field and at Kleinschmidt and how they have developed their careers. They took the time to teach me things I did not know and to coach me through tasks that I did not understand. I was shocked that they gave me so much independence and autonomy in my work and I was treated as a peer, not just an intern, which meant a lot to me. "

"On my third week I was able to go on a site visit to a client in New York. I was able to see part of the rehabilitation process on a current project. This helped me gain perspective for the work I would be doing for the rest of the summer. On the ride back I got to know Lucas better and his eclectic musical tastes!"

"I have been able to design control systems, draft in AutoCAD, use RSMeans for feasibility studies, work on heat analysis, create bill of materials, and much more. I have gained tremendous insight into the consulting field and feel more confident entering the work force after I graduate. Not only have I learned fundamental technical skills that I need for electrical engineering, I have been able to work directly with clients and co-workers which has improved my communication skills in the professional environment. Kleinschmidt has truly been a learning experience for me and I am so happy to have had this opportunity."
