Students' Association Update

Hello! Welcome to the Winter Edition of the Students' Association Update. This is an opportunity for you to see the exciting work of the Students' Association and what we have coming up.

Hey Everyone! 👋 Can you believe it's almost Christmas? Where has this year gone! There's been lots happening in the Students' Association with plenty more coming up including the launch of our shiny new website! Keep your eyes peeled for more updates 👀

So far this year we've launched our new Student Partnership Agreement topic on My Voice, held several SA on Campus at both City and Riverside, as well as STV hosting an action packed I'm a Celebrity event for students to have some fun and grab a few freebies.

Christmas Night at Strathclyde Students' Union

It's the most wonderful time of year and we want to mark that by having an awesome end of term Christmas Night at Strathclyde Union on Saturday 8th December! 🎅🎄

There will be a DJ, freebies and drinks promos. It's only £3 for a ticket which you can purchase here Alternatively you can pay £5 on the door. This event is strictly 18+. Simply register as a guest and purchase your ticket online and we hope to see you there!

In the first block, the SA have hosted a number of cultural and wellbeing events for students including World Kindness Day, World Mental Health Day and Black History Month.

This December the 'Raise It' Society are launching their 'Sock It' initiative designed to help the homeless in Glasgow. The aim of 'Sock It' is to fill a sock with essential items for those in need. We require the following items:

• Toothbrush & small tube of toothpaste

• Roll on deodorant

• Disposable razor

• Sweets or Chocolate

• Comb

• Gloves

• Boxers or knickers (Medium)

Once you've filled the sock, simply hand it into the Students' Association at City or Riverside. We'll be announcing more information soon so keep up-to-date on our social media channels.

Healthy Body, Healthy Mind

We've been working again this year to take part in the Healthy Body, Healthy Mind award. The award is given to colleges and universities for showing a commitment to promoting a positive, healthy lifestyle and the work is split into three main areas; Stop Smoking/Smoking Prevention, Sport and Physical Activity and Mental Wellbeing.

We want to hear from you! Please join in by taking our short HBHM survey through MyCity. Every student who joins will automatically be entered into a prize draw to win a £50 Amazon voucher.

2018 has been the year of the society and I'm very excited to announce that we currently have 11 running. For the first time ever, we have two societies at Riverside, 'Culture Club' and a 'Gaming Society'. They're FREE to join and available to all students at City of Glasgow College. With societies ranging from Debating to Perilous Expeditions, there's something for everyone!

We also have a number of Sports Clubs currently running which are open to all students at the college. Attending a sports club is a great way to meet new people whilst keeping active! The best way to keep up to date is by liking the COGC Sports Clubs Facebook page.

Be Inspired 2018

We're excited to announce that our annual Be Inspired Conference is taking place on Thursday 6th December from 9.30am-12pm in City Campus Theatre! You will hear from a variety of inspirational speakers, receive a goodie bag, and maybe even see some magic 🃏...

The event is free to attend, but you must book your place here We have limited spaces left so be quick!

Annual General Meeting (AGM)

It's that time of year again and we want to hear from you! Our AGM is currently taking place on My Voice (which you can access through My City). The AGM gives you the opportunity to set the priorities for the year ahead.

Voting is currently in full swing and we have 2 motions to vote on:

'Campaign for the end of Open Classrooms'

'Scrap the AGM'

The voting closes on Friday 7th December at 5pm so please log in to My Voice to have your say! 🗳

City Goes Green

Here at the Students' Association we want to contribute to making City of Glasgow College more environmentally friendly. This year we're going for the Green Impact Award. In order to win this award, we need your help! ♻

Have you spotted the Strathmore water bottle drop off points situated around the college? If so, all you need to do is drop off your empty Strathmore bottle into one of the designated bins. We'll then use these bottles to build an awesome greenhouse!

There's also the opportunity to swap your Strathmore water bottle for a CitySA branded water bottle! All you need to do is bring your empty Strathmore bottle to the Students' Association at City or Riverside to get your shiny new bottle.

Thanks for reading our latest update. You can get in touch with us by email, phone or pop into your nearest Students' Association Space!
