Platypus Evidence for evoultion

The platypus also referred to as the duck billed platypus are native to eastern austirilia primarily living in large bodies of water. making it one of the more rarer aniamals out there it is classified to be in the ornithorhynchidae group. and first evolved about 166 millon years ago making it one of the first mammals to split.

the closet relative of the platypus is the echidna which is the only closet relative. you can cleary see how both relate and are diffrrent from each other as the echidna has its hair sticking up but both have similar faces and the way they get food.

INTRODUCTION. the molecular similarters beweteen the two are very simmilar as they share the same ancestor platylpus and ehinda divredged 112.5 millon years ago reinforcing the notion of monotremes as fossils.

dHOMOLOGOUS STRUCTURES the homologus structures are similar to a ducks and dogs but the functions are so diffrent. homologous structures is a example of a organ or bone that appears in diffrent aniamals underlining anatomlic demonstarting descent from a common ancestor. they show evidence when they evolve they still have many things smiliar like the platypus has the same beak as the duck from evolving.

VESTIGIAL STRUCTURE the platypus has teeth that are vestgial structures and are not used but they are there from there ancestors. vestigial structures are useless organs or structures that are from the organisms past ancestors passed down.
