Making the Most of Your Classes From Home

We hope you're adjusting to the "new normal" while figuring out how to complete classes from home. We, at MCC, are working to make your transition online as easy as possible given the circumstances.

This issue of Yourspace is dedicated to helping you access online resources to complete courses, register for classes, or prepare for graduation.

We understand that things are not "business as usual," but we are still moving toward the goal of completing the semester's classes. For some students that depends on completing hands-on projects to which they may not have access. Some students may lack access to technology in order to go online. Other students have been taking classes online the entire semester and nothing has changed for them. We understand there are many circumstances that need to be considered. If you have not been in touch with your instructor either by email or by phone, please do that as soon as possible, and as the situation changes. Instructors will continue to work with each student to determine the needs and requirements as the semester progresses.

Get Help Going Online

Since courses are no longer meeting on campus, here is some help logging into MCC's learning management system, Blackboard. Blackboard will give you access to your course content and assignments online. See the following screenshots with step-by-step instructions. If you have any questions about the course or assignments, please email your instructor. If you have never logged into your Self Service account, click HERE to set up your account.

Graduating?

If you are completing your program requirements this semester and plan on graduating, there is still time to apply for graduation and order your cap and gown. Please visit www.montgomery.edu/graduation for links to the application for graduation login and cap and gown order form. The cap and gown order form can be downloaded and emailed to fryek@montgomery.edu

To pay for graduation or your cap and gown, please call the Business Office at 910-898-9633 to pay your fees over the phone. Since the Business Office is working a modified schedule, you may have to leave your name and phone number and someone will contact you.

The graduation date of May 6 is tentative and may be moved. Please watch your email, the college's website, and Yourspace for all calendar updates.

MCC Library is Ready to Help

Current student Registration: March 16 - 27

Due to the campus being closed to students to prevent further spread of coronavirus, current students should contact their advisors by phone or email to determine their summer course schedule. Career and College Promise (CCP) students should contact their high school counselors when school resumes.

Self Service is available for student registration. For students who don't have reliable internet service, please ask your advisor to register you for your summer courses. You may also email Karen Frye at fryek@montgomery.edu with your registration request which should include the course number and section. If you are in need of your actual registration form, please email your request to fryek@montgomery.edu.

Summer payment options: Self Service, check (via U.S. mail), credit, debit, or Nelnet payment plan. Payment for summer term is due by April 30.

Students receiving financial aid should check their Self Service account for financial aid status.

Summer Textbooks Available Soon

The bookstore will have summer textbooks available starting on Monday, March 30, 2020. Click the link to go to the MCC Virtual Bookstore.

App Provides Alerts When Cell Towers Are Down

At Montgomery Community College, technology is helping us stay safer and communicate better than ever before. We use a system called Regroup Mass Notification to send important day-to-day and emergency alerts by email, phone, text, and more. Now, Regroup offers a free mobile app for you to stay informed even when cell phone towers are down or overloaded.

With the free AlertMe app from Regroup, you can receive push notifications about closures, safety notifications, emergency alerts, important events, and more, directly on your smartphone. The app allows you to set your notification preferences so you only receive the alerts that are important to you. In the event of an emergency, Alertme will also allow MCC to reach you based on your location.

Download AlertMe today and log in using the email address where you currently receive MCC's emails. It’s a free and easy way to get important information in a convenient location.
