This year in math, I am excited to be fully implementing a "blended learning" model. This means that when students have mastered a concept at the sixth grade level, they may move on to the same concept at the seventh grade level or the next sixth grade standard. Likewise, those who have not mastered a concept or standard at the sixth grade level, will continue to receive support on that concept. Enrichment and/or remediation support will be provided for each student as needed at his or her own level. I am excited to have new technology tools to aid in this instruction!
We will be learning about a variety of topics this year as part of our Core Knowledge Science curriculum. Be sure to attend Curriculum Night on August 23 to hear more about the year we have planned!
Desert Sun Academy is a Core Knowledge school. The Core Knowledge Social Studies Curriculum is a content specific, spiraled, sequenced and shared study of the past that we relate to our present time. We will embark on adventures to all Deserts of the World, Ancient Greece and Rome and the French Revolution time period, to name a few. I look forward to many adventures in Social Studies this year!
We have a very exciting year ahead in Language Arts. We will be implementing the Vocabulary Surge program in class where students will be working with different word parts. At the end of the year, they will have learned thousands of new vocabulary words! As always, please make sure your child is reading 20 minutes every night!
