Tathra Public School newsletter term 1 week 3

Year 6 Leadership

With the wonderful and much needed rain earlier this week, we had to postpone our Year 6 Leadership Camp and move it to next Thursday, 16 February and Friday, 17 February. Fingers are crossed that the rain will hold off for us for those dates. On Tuesday Mr Doug Reckord, Principal of Bournda Environmental Education Centre came to speak to the Year 6 students about Leadership and the camp.

We are looking forward to a visit at camp from Mr Terry Dixon (former principal of Tathra Public School and well-known local identity), who will come to the camp on our last day to speak about what he believes are the qualities of good leaders. Terry is an amazing speaker and a man whom admire very much. I am sure the students will learn a lot from his wise words of wisdom.

Congratulations to our Year 6 students who were voted by their peers as House Leaders last week during our first House meetings for the year

2017 TPS Swimming Carnival

What a hot and sunny day for our Swimming Carnival yesterday! Thank you to Mrs Beard for all her work in organising the carnival and to the staff, parents, grandparents and carers who came along to help out and/or support the students during their races. I’d like to recognise all the Year 2 students who have competed for the first time today and those children who are not really swimming competitive but who entered events to have a go and earn points for their house. I loved the sportsmanship displayed by so many students as they shook hands and congratulated one another.

Congratulations to winners and placegetters and the students who will go on to represent the school at the Zone Swimming Carnival on 22 February at Candelo pool.

A special thank you to the Helping Hands Network for allowing us to have our Tathra PS coordinator Megan Cole at the carnival. It was fabulous to have Megan there yesterday.

Out of School Hours Care

Our Department of Education employment award requires that there is a teaching staff member on duty half an hour before and half an hour after the commencement of school. We cannot be responsible for the supervision of your child if s/he is at school before 8:45am or after 3:45pm.

The Helping Hands Tathra Before and After School care service (OSHC) has been running now for 6 months. Coordinator Megan Cole is a fabulous educator. We highly recommend this service to you if you require before or after school care for your primary aged children. As with all child care services there is naturally a cost but there are also rebates associated with these costs depending on your circumstances. The OSHC service is on site for you to utilise should you have difficulty ensuring supervision for your children outside the hours of school.

Pedlars Parade 2017

It’s nearly that time of the Year Again! To link with the History Units of work currently being implemented in K-6, we ask that students come dressed as… an inspirational person from the past or present.

We hope that this will encourage students to discuss what makes these people inspirational, further develop their understanding of specific world news/events and use language associated with our history units. The Pedlars Parade will be held on Thursday the 6th April @ approximately 12 noon. We invite students, staff, families and community members to attend and support our K-2 Major Fundraiser for 2017. There will be more information to follow as the event gets nearer. Angela Mundy

P&C AGM Monday 13 February in the staffroom @ 6pm.

A reminder to all parents, the P&C AGM and monthly meeting will be held this Monday 13 February.. It is a great way to meet other parents and be involved in your child’s school. All positions will be declared vacant. We would love to see you there!

2016 letter of thanks

I received this letter this week in relation to the donation of foods collected at the end of last year by our families to support REAP.

To the students and staff, parents and supporters,

I would like to thank you all very enthusiastically for your generosity last December. As the Pastor of the Uniting Church here at Eden I can report that we felt very excited and blessed to be the recipients of your gifts of festive food. As a combined effort with REAP/Oz Harvest , community volunteers and the Sapphire Coast Community Christmas Lunch group we distributed fifty hampers to families in Eden who really appreciated this expression of kindness and support. Your gifts added a very special touch along with all the basics of a Christmas meal and additional gifts for the children. Thankyou and well done all of you!
