ACADEMICS @ WEST

Air Force JROTC is a citizenship training program that is designed to educate and train high school cadets in leadership, citizenship, community service, personal responsibility, character, and self-discipline. There is never an obligation to join the military.

Advanced Placement courses are designed to provide motivated high school students with college-level academic courses.

Our Career & Technical Education department offers courses in Engineering, Process Technology, Media, and Medical Academy.

Core Classes: English Department, Math Department, Science Department, and Social Studies Department

Fine Arts & Music elective choices include DanceWest, band, choir, orchestra, and a variety of art department classes.

West's Highly Gifted program is committed to providing every student with an academic plan that meets her/his unique educational needs.

The IB Diploma Program is a challenging two-year course of studies that encourages creative inquiry and critical thinking while helping students develop a global perspective.

Our Medical Academy focuses on high school courses in healthcare, monthly guest speakers, and engagement in community health care events.

The PE Department offers classes in weight training, yoga, recreational sports, and first aid.

Russian Immersion: West is the continuation for students who were enrolled in Russian Immersion at Turnagain and Romig.

Spanish Immersion: West is the continuation for students who were enrolled in Spanish Immersion at Government Hill and Romig.

Trio Upward Bound is a college access program working with students who would be a part of the first generation in their families to complete a bachelor's degree or face income limitations to higher education.

World Language Department offerings include classes in French, German, and Spanish.

West offers a wide variety of both team and individual sports for athletes of all levels.

Amnesty International

Education about human rights abuses worldwide, including what basic human rights are and how to advocate for victims through letter-writing and other means.

Battle of the Books

Sponsor: Staci Cox

Students read 10 young adult novels and battle with students from other schools to see who knows them best.

GSA

Sponsors: Barb Clark & John Ruhlin

Promoting understanding and dispelling prejudice amongst gay, straight, transgender and bisexual students at West.

Key Club

Key Club International or Key Club, founded in 1925, is the oldest and largest service program for high school students. It is a student-led organization whose goal is to encourage leadership through serving others.

Partners Club

Sponsors: Eric Camp, Kaleb Kuehn, & Temperance Tinkerkays

Partners Club brings together special education and general education students through sports and activities sponsored by Special Olympics. Our main goals are to create a welcoming community for everyone at West and to have fun together. We do activities like bowling, cookie decorating, downhill skiing, floor hockey, writing thank you notes, basketball, and the Polar Plunge Special Olympics fundraiser.

Robotics

Join our team to design, build, and program a robot and compete against other schools from around the state and possibly beyond. No experience necessary.

YANA

The West High YANA club (aka Kindness Club) is a safe, fun place for everyone and anyone to meet. We provide a welcoming environment that emphasizes healthy life style choices, discusses self-care strategies, and raises awareness regarding mental health. Students make a difference at West High, one smile at a time :)
