Cuban Missile Crisis By: Dylan Doerr, Alex Van Pelt, and aidan anderson

  • The Cuban Missile Crisis occurred from October 16-28, 1962.
  • It was a response to the Bay of Pigs invasion.
  • Also know as the Caribbean Crisis or the Missile Scare.
  • The confrontation is considered the closest the Cold War came to escalating to a full-scale nuclear war.
  • Cuba wanted to place the missiles on the island to stop future invasions into the country.
  • The president during this time was John F. Kennedy.
  • Kennedy worked nonstop to negotiate an agreement with Cuba.
  • This agreement finally came when the Soviets dismantled their weapons.
  • Secretly, the US agreed to dismantle all their weapons deployed in Turkey and Italy against the Soviet Union.
American people were very nervous.
