I am one of the older students in the classes I take to obtain my Masters of Education in Information Technology Media Science. My first Easter picture gives it away that I was born in the middle of the 1960's. I am certified as a Middle Grades Science and English teacher, but decided to take a break a few years ago. Teaching is a second career for me - or maybe a third. I've been married 33 years and you have to say being a military wife is a career in itself. I did retail/retail management for 17 years and then decided to become a teacher just before my husband took off his uniform for the last time. My mother retired after 30 years as a teacher so you can say I am following in her footsteps. Being home and becoming an empty nester has prompted me to follow my heartstrings and do what I need to rejoin the education community and become a Media Specialist.
Although I do not have a contract I still have a current certificate and plan to put it back into use. I volunteer 3-4 days a week at Waldo Pafford Elementary School in their Media Center. It has been an enlightening experience and I know that being a Media Specialist is what I really want to do. The job is not just checking out books - it is also working with technology as Liberty County Schools has made the iPad a major component for all instruction. It is helping students discover that they CAN read, what they LIKE to read, and that they can be SUCCESSFUL!
My family is important to me. I have 3 children ages 28, 22, and 21 and a wonderful grandson who is 2 going on 35! My husband Jeff can't seem to leave the military and works as a military contractor since his retirement. My oldest daughter, Kelsey, is a Double Eagle receiving both her Bachelors and Master's in Chemistry from Georgia Southern. She is the mother of my pride an joy AJ. I love him like crazy but am now old enough to fully appreciate nap time! My son Jay is in Law Enforcement locally and wishes that HE wasn't the middle child. Amberlee, my youngest, is a Junior pursuing her Biomedical Engineering degree from Mercer and has become an EMT as well.
