A Family Day in The Park #ExploRedding

Pile the kiddos in the car and head over to Jefferson State Adventure Hub on Market Street to rent bikes for a fun family bike ride on the Sacramento River National Recreation Trail. If you have bikes of your own, parking at Caldwell Park or by the historic Diestelhorst Bridge places you at about the same starting point. You rarely lose sight of the river on your ride. Cruise over to the Sundial Bridge and head into downtown Redding for a stop at Roots Juice Bar on Pine Street for the best fresh juice and smoothies in town. Make sure to order the apple nachos to share for a healthy snack to refuel the little ones. The ride back to Jefferson State Adventure Hub is an easy 1.4-mile journey to return the rentals.

Head to Holiday Market off Placer Street for one of their JUMBO sandwiches from the deli. (Note: this option is not on the menu but are made from an ENTIRE loaf of bread for around $12, which is perfect for the family). Enjoy family time at Rivercrest Park, complete with covered picnic area, restrooms, a toddler play area as well as an older child play area, basketball courts and large grassy area. It has everything you need for a full day at the park. The multiple play areas offer practically endless fun for my kids and I don’t mind the covered area for retreating from the sun.

Of course, the best way to end the day for all parties is with a wood-fired pizza and ice cream. Lucky for us, Cinders and Taste & See Creamery in the Market Street Plaza are in the same building, making them a ONE STOP SHOP (the order you eat them is entirely your decision.) The kids love the ALL cheese pizza and my husband and I crave the specialty pizza’s. You can’t go wrong with any of them. For dessert, the boys love anything with chocolate and the Oreos and cream while us “parentals” delve into the Bourbon Brown Butter Pecan. We all get scoops in cups so they don’t melt on our hands and we can add toppings that won’t fall off.
