My Future Health Decision Erika Opperman

My health decision is when it is appropriate to have children.

When making a critical health related decision, it is important to use your intuition, but also to use reasoning. It is also important to decide weather the decision is a group decision or your individual decision.

My decision for the future is when it is appropriate to have children. This presentation will describe my process of making the decision.

What type of decision?

My decision will be a group decision between me and my partner. It is important that we both take into consideration if we have stable jobs and a stable home at the time that can support having a child around. It is also important to decide what dreams and aspirations we both have. For example, I want to travel and traveling can cost a lot of money so it would be best to do these things before having a child.

Intuition

I need to make sure that I feel comfortable in my relationship as well. By using my intuition or 'gut feeling', will help me to decide weather or not this is an appropriate time in my relationship.

“More complicated decisions tend to require a more formal, structured approach, usually involving both intuition and reasoning.” Excerpt From: Hilliard City Schools. “Unit 1: Making Healthy Choices.” v1.0. iBooks. This material may be protected by copyright.

Reasoning

Reasoning is a big aspect that will help me decide when it is appropriate to discuss the topic. I need to make sure I'm in a good place with myself and in a good place with my relationship. I need to also make sure that our life together is stable financially so we can support the child and take care of it.

“We must recognize that our brains will look for the short-term gain and will not easily “see” the long term risk.” Excerpt From: Hilliard City Schools. “Unit 1: Making Healthy Choices.” v1.0. iBooks. This material may be protected by copyright.

The long term impact

This decision definitely has a long term impact on my life. I need to realize the problems it could cause in the future and how to fix them before saying yes to having a child. I also need to make sure our insurance is strong in case if something happens and other details that will be important in the future.

“People are often very attached to the status quo. Decisions tend to involve the prospect of change, which many people find difficult” Excerpt From: Hilliard City Schools. “Unit 1: Making Healthy Choices.” v1.0. iBooks. This material may be protected by copyright.

Set backs of my decision

When making my decision I need to make sure that I don't have any emotional attachments to the 'status quo'. I need to make sure that I'm not making this decision just because everyone around my age have decispded to have children. I need to make sure that it is the right time for me.
