Graduation Portrait Guide photographer - Laura Gorr

Congratulations! Graduating High School is a HUGE accomplishment worth celebrating! One of the best ways to remember your high school experience, and to celebrate your promotion into adulthood is through a graduation portrait session.

If you want photos that look natural and filled with emotion ... the kind of photos that aren't awkward or stiff. And if you're here because you’re searching for someone who can give you the heartfelt, iconic images you’ve been dreaming of, all while making the experience enjoyable and stress-free ….

The Process

Your personality should decide your graduation portrait style. Graduation portraits are a great time to showcase the things you love. Books, sports, art… all of these passions can be displayed through creative photography.

I pride myself on creating beautiful images that are meaningful to each graduate and their loved ones. I believe in flexibility, creativity and good old-fashioned fun on each photo shoot. I create images that are timeless with a modern twist.

“Education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today.”

~ Malcolm X

I am not a high-volume graduation photographer. I work with a small number of graduates each year, which allows me to give the attention needed to each graduate and their family.

I also make sure to take some time to document the smallest of details that I know are an important part of your day!

Senior year is such a fun, memorable time for both the student and the parents. I feel honoured when families choose to work with me for their graduation portraits, as it is such an important milestones!

“Elegance is not being noticed, it’s about being remembered.”

~ Giorgio Armani

Frequently asked questions

When do we take the photos?

Photography is all about lighting. Sessions take place about 2 hours before sunset. Depending on the time of year, this can be as early as 3pm or as late as 6pm start time.

Some ladies like to coordinate their photo session with their hair and make-up trial day.

We can take the photos on the day of your actual graduation but please note that the lighting for photographs isn't ideal midday.

“I encourage you to live with life. Be courageous, adventurous. Give us a tomorrow, more than we deserve.”

~ Maya Angelou

Do you take family photos during our graduation photo session?

Absolutely! Your family is welcome to join in the fun and I will take whatever combinations of photos you wish and that time will allow for.

Please take into account that it takes time to get those individual iconic images so we do want to make sure we are leaving enough time to focus on the graduate during our session together.

I've never had professional photos taken, do I need to know how to pose?

Nope! It is my job to make you feel comfortable in front of the camera and to get a variety of natural smiling and formal images for your gallery.

“Your life is your story, and the adventure ahead of you is the journey to fulfill your own purpose and potential.”

~ Kerry Washington

How do I book?

Once you have decided that you would like me to capture your graduation portraits and we have determined a suitable date for the photo session, a $100 deposit is required to book your date. The complete balance is due on the day of your photo session.

“So, I say to you, forget about the fast lane. If you really want to fly, just harness your power to your passion. Honour your calling. Everybody has one. Trust your heart and success will come to you.”

~ Oprah Winfrey

How long does it take to receive our photographs?

You can expect to receive your complete digital gallery in 3-4 weeks. I know that waiting can be HARD! To help, I share a few sneak peeks during the first week after your portrait session.

Can we print our photographs?

Please do! You will receive a print release so you can print wherever you deem best.

Can we have images in both colour and black & white?

During the editing process I will choose either colour or black and white for each image based on my professional knowledge of what works best. Sometimes the lighting will allow me to convert a photograph to both, however, most of the time I choose one or the other.

Will we receive digital files of our photographs?

Yes! You will receive your images through an online digital gallery which will allow you to share, send and download all of your photographs.

“To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream, not only plan, but also believe.”

~ Anatole France
