High School English Teacher By Ms. Roland

My three themes:

Empathy, Developer, Connection

Empathy:

You can sense the emotions of those around you. You can feel what they are feeling as though their feelings are your own.

Basically, I have an ability to understand others and that can be a powerful tool for a teacher because students need and want to be understood.

Developer:

You can see the potential in others. When you interact with others, your goal is to help them experience success.

As a developer I want to help those around me be the best that they can be. This is a necessary personality trait for a teacher because students are in a constant state of growth and development.

Connection:

Things happen for a reason. You are sure of it. You gain knowledge from knowing that we are not isolated from one another or from the earth and the life on it. You are considerate, caring, and accepting. Certain of the unity of humankind, you are a bridge builder for people of different cultures.

Since I see everything as connected, I am constantly trying to put out into the world what I would hope to get back. This is an asset for a teacher because every student that is helped becomes a good thing being sent out into the world.

I was surprised by the results because they were so accurate. Reading the descriptions helped me understand myself better.

My Career: Teacher

A teacher is someone who helps young people learn new things and grow into intelligent, capable young adults. They inspire children to explore their passions and to follow their dreams.
I chose this career because it is where I can do the most good.

Salary

The average California teacher can expect to make about $35,000 a year but it varies depending on the district.

Teaching isn't about the money.

Outlook:

California is facing a "teacher drought," so there is a high demand for this career right now.

As long as there are children, there will be a demand for teachers

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree (4-year degree)
  • Passing score on the CSET (California Subject Examinations for Teachers)
  • Subject-matter credential (one or two years post-graduate)

College Major

I would like to study English Literature because I enjoy reading. This is a common major at most universities, so I'll have my choice of where to go.

Thank you!
