EARLY CHILDHOOD PIONEERS

The Goldberg Family

In 2012, the preschool was renamed the Sherry and Ken Goldberg Early Childhood Center (GECC) bringing the indoor facility up to par with the new J Naturescape. This marked a very big step in innovation and growth for the J. Not only was the facility state-of-the-art but it also allowed for the expansion of preschool programs and advancement of education for the community to experience.

We build a love of learning and a community that lasts a lifetime. -Tara Ohayon (Director)

ACHIEVEMENTS

The Sherry and Ken Goldberg Early Childhood Center (GECC) is a National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accredited state of the art Early Childhood Development Center.

ENROLLMENT & ENGAGEMENT

We can proudly say that we currently have over 200 students enrolled in our preschool program, which has doubled over the last 10 years. We currently often have wait lists for the new enrollment season.

The J and the parents of the school continue to invest in the preschool, adding a child friendly kitchen, technological advances throughout the school, fish tanks, a new interactive library and so much more. #bestschoolfamilyever

NATIONAL RECOGNITION

JCCA has showcased us nationally and we are 1 of 7 “Lab Schools” which serve as a model for other JCC learning centers.

CURRICULUM

Our entire curriculum is based on the latest research in early childhood education. Learning activities are geared to the child’s developmental stage, individual ability and unique interests.

GECC curriculum focuses on the development of the whole child, using social and emotional development as the unshakable foundation for the stage-by-stage development of cognitive, language, physical, scientific, creative, and self-help skills. This instructional philosophy prepares children for the transition into their next school stage.

Naturescape News

NATURE PLAY & DISCOVERY

In 2012, the J and enthusiastic volunteers raised the funds to build a natural playground for our preschool and camps. This Naturescape is not only unique, but one of a kind for preschools and JCCs across the country.

Today the Naturescape is used for traditional outdoor play as well as outdoor classrooms for science and art. Outdoor learning allows children to delve deeper into self-initiated activities and endless creative opportunities that promote curiosity, inventiveness and resilience.
