ROCHESTER, NY (April 20, 2017): The Monroe CC (7-4) men’s lacrosse team split their two games while in Maryland. The Tribunes lost on Wednesday night against #5 Anne Arundel CC. Monroe CC then bounced back against College of Southern Maryland and won, 24 to 7.
The Tribunes are ready to go against #5 Anne Arundel CC.
Against Anne Arundel, the Tribunes were led by goals from Freshmen Patrick Brewer (Haverling) and Austin Jobson (Victor), who scored one goal a piece. Sophomores Jake Moss (Wayne) and Dave Lehman (Webster Schroeder) each scored a goal, as well. Both Lehman and Jobson had an assist. Goalie Mark Campbell (Waterloo) had 15 saves in goal for the Tribunes.
On Thursday afternoon against the College of Southern Maryland Hawks, the Tribunes were led by Sophomore Hudson Weil (Williamsville East) who had seven goals for the Tribunes. Lehman scored four goals, Nick Kallio (two assists) and Conner Nicholson (one assist) each scored three goals for the Tribunes. Jobson, Brewer, and Brandon Barnhart (Greece Arcadia) each scored two goals while Jobson also had three assists and Brewer had one assist. Jake Moss contributed with three assists and Cody Mattison (Wayne) had one assist. Chantz Sellers (A.L. Brown) scored his first goal of the season.

After a slow start to the game, the Tribunes were able to get on the scoreboard with a goal from Lehman. Less then a minute later, Hudson Weil got on the score board for the first of his seven goals. Connor Nicholson (Wayne) soon answered with a goal of his own, a minute later. The Tribunes continued the scoring, while shutting out Hawks in the first quarter. The Tribunes led, 7 to 0 after one quarter including a goal by Nick Kallio (Livonia) with 15 seconds before the close of the quarter.
Freshman Nick Kallio had two goals and three assists against the Hawks.
The Hawks were able to get on the board, three minutes into the quarter but the Tribunes quickly answered with a goal from Weil. Monroe were able to score another three goals but the Hawks answered with a goal of their own less then three minutes in the quarter. The Tribunes capitalized on a man-up goal with 1:03 left. At the end of the half, Monroe led 12 to 2.
The Hawks were able to make a quick comeback as they scored four goals to only two goals by the Tribunes in the third quarter, but that would be the closest CSM would come back. Mark Campbell and the defense were able to keep the Hawks off the scoreboard after their final goal with ten minutes left in the fourth quarter.
Sophomore Ryan Boadway led the Tribunes with 18 ground balls.
The defense was led by Sophomore Ryan Boadway (Bloomfield) who picked up eighteen ground balls. Sophomore Richard Scacchetti (Hilton) was one behind Boadway with seventeen ground balls and he won twenty three face-offs. Mark Campbell made nineteen saves in net for Monroe.
Sophomore Richard Scacchetti had 17 ground balls on the day vs the Hawks.
The Tribunes defense was able to shut out CSM for many periods of the game including the last ten minutes of the game. The defense played great and were led by Freshmen Trevor Knoepfler (Webster Thomas), Matt Kegler (Spencerport), Santana Deada (Wayne), Cody Matteson and Sophomores Boadway and Cole Crawford (Wayne).
The Tribunes defense were able to contain the Hawks for most of the day.
The Tribunes play their final game against Hudson Valley CC on Saturday afternoon at 1PM. The Region 3 seedings will be announced on Sunday night. The Tribunes will play a quarterfinal game on Wednesday. Game time and location will be announced after the seedings come out.
