The Little Princess By Josilyn Grant

Once upon a time, in a castle far, far away, there was a little princess named Rose.

Princess Rose was always getting into trouble. She loved to venture around The village and talk to strangers, even though her mom told her not to.

The people in the village looked forward to seeing Rose. She would come down from her castle every day at lunch to get some bread.

EVEN THOUGH ROSE'S MOM DIDN'T LIKE HER LEAVING THE CASTLE, SHE DIDN'T MIND UNLESS ROSE WENT TO THE COTTAGE IN THE FOREST.

One day Rose decided that she wanted to visit the man that lived in the cottage in the woods. She peaked through the key hole of her parents' bedroom to make sure that they were asleep.

Her parents were fast asleep, so Rose grabbed her coat and took off to the woods. She didn't know why so many people were afraid of the man that lived in the cottage. It looked like a friendly place to her.

She walked through the woods until she saw a boat. She knew that the boat had to belong to the man that lived in the cottage.

IT WAS GETTING DARK OUTSIDE AND ROSE WAS COLD, SO SHE WENT UP TO THE COTTAGE AND KNOCKED ON THE DOOR.

ALL OF THE SUDDEN...

THE DOOR SLOWLY OPENED AND MADE A LOUD SCREECH. ROSE JUMPED AND THOUGHT THAT MAYBE THIS WASN'T A GOOD IDEA TO COME DOWN TO THE COTTAGE THAT HER MOM TOLD HER TO STAY AWAY FROM.

She was about to turn around when a short man came out and said,

Hello my name is Grumpy. What are you doing all the way down here in the woods? Are you lost?
Would you like to come inside? It's very cold outside. Sorry, I don't usually have visitors, so the house is a little messy, but I can make you some hot chocolate!

Rose walked inside even though she knew she wasn't SUPPOSED to. It was just too cold to stay outside.

Inside the cottage, Rose was greeted by friendly animals that also came inside to keep warm. Grumpy made Rose some hot chocolate and he heated up the fireplace. They sipped their hot chocolate and talked until Rose remembered that her parents didn't know where she had gone.

ROSE THANKED GRUMPY FOR BEING SO KIND. HE then GAVE HER AN EXTRA COAT FOR THE WALK home.

Rose started to run back to the castle. When she got home her parents were looking for her.

ROSE! Where have you been?! When we woke up you weren't home, so we sent the guards down to the village to look for you. We were so worried.

ROSE TOLD HER PARENTS THAT SHE WENT DOWN TO THE COTTAGE IN THE WOODS.

HER PARENTS WERE FURIOUS BECAUSE THEY TOLD HER TO NEVER GO DOWN THERE BECAUSE OF THE mean MAN THAT LIVED IN THAT COTTAGE.

Rose didn't understand why her parents thought Grumpy was mean. Just because he lived in the forest doesn't meen he is a bad person. So Rose told her parents how nice he was to her.

Her parents were shocked and felt bad for assuming that Grumpy was a mean person because of his name and since he lived in the forest alone. Rose told her parents that he wasn't alone because he had lots of animals that came to his house.

Rose's parents were very proud of her for not assuming that Grumpy was mean and decided to let her go visit Grumpy every week, but she had to let them know when she was leaving from now on.
