Summary of the myth Iris and the birth of Apollon

Zeus the god of the Olympian world was married to his third wife Hera, but he was also infatuated for the goddess Leto, the goddess Leto was about to give birth to Apollo and Artemis, she was trying to look for a safe place to start the birth process since Hera was trying to prevent it or make the birth process very painful, so the goddesses and the nymphs of Hera were looking for Leto as Hera wished to stop the birth process. The god Iris and other goddesses were trying to help Leto attending her and trying to find a safe place to give birth, as they did on a island where Hera and the other goddesses couldn't go. Apollon was going to be safe as long as he didn't abandon the island, Leto was waiting for the goddess Eileithya the goddess of birth to attend Leto but Hera had her occupied to not attend Leto, so the goddesses sent Iris to look for the goddess of birth at the mount Olympos, and discretely she talked to her and finally she got her to help Leto and Apolon was born without further delay, and Hera was satisfied with the interference of Iris and didn't bother to hinder the birth of Artemis.

Summary of the myth Iris and the Trojan war

Iris faithfully did the will of Zeus to the other immortals who were fighting and meddling. After Afrodita got hurt for the attack of Diomedes helped Afrodita to heal the wound. Iris never choose a side in the war she helped both armies as Zeus wished. She helped the Trojan commander, Hektor and likewise his most hated enemy, Achilles with equal faithfulness.

her trait was neutrality because she didn't take any sides in the myths where she appears like it was wrote in the myth of Iris and the birth of Apollon, also in these quotes show us another of her traits that was faithfulness: ''Iris is not noted for taking sides in disputes between the Immortals but she is often called upon to relay messages between the conflicting deities ... the birth of Zeus's son Apollon is a perfect example of this type of situation''(Mythagora.com).

Also in the myth Iris and the Trojan war said:''Iris played a significant role in the Trojan War but not as a fighter or meddler ... she faithfully relayed the will of Zeus to the other Immortals who were fighting and meddling. Sometimes she would assume the guise of a man or woman and at other times she would reveal herself in all her glory''(Mythagora.com).

or when it was also expressed in the myth Iris and the Trojan war: ''Iris took no side in the war and advised both armies as Zeus commanded. She helped the Trojan commander, Hektor and likewise his most hated enemy, Achilles with equal faithfulness ... Iris relayed tactical information to Hektor about how to best delegate authority in his diverse army ... she also helped Achilles by going to the house of Boreas [North Wind] to ask the Winds to desist so Achilles could light the funeral pyre of his fallen companion, Patroklos''(Mythagora.com).

These quotes explain us that her traits was neutrality and faithfulness because in the quotes is expressed that she never took any side, she helped everyone in the fights and the wars changing sides an also helping every group she didn't care who could win she just cared about helping everyone on the wars, also she demonstrates faithfulness in the quotes of the myths when she always has the will to send messages to everyone who asked for her presence and sent the messages very fast and without delay, also she helped when someone asked for her helped or when they used to make a order to her to do what they wished, she never refused any order or petition, she was always willing to help anyone who asked for her help as it is demonstrated in the myths and in the wars.

The Iris's last trait would be caring when she was helping either side of the groups in Iris and the Trojan war, also in the myth Iris and the birth of Apollon was wrote:''After nine days and nights of labor, Leto had still not given birth ... the goddesses in attendance sent Iris to Mount Olympos to find Eileithyia. Iris was very discreet when she arrived on the sacred mountain ... she carefully drew Eileithyia aside so that Hera could not overhear their conversation. After explaining the situation to Eileithyia, Iris took her to Leto ... Apollon was born without further delay''(Mythagora.com).

so That means that Iris was a caring person because she was trying to help the goddess Leto to give birth to Apollon, by looking for the goddess of birth and also taking care of Leto while she was going through the birth process, that demosntrates that she cared about Leto and his security while the birth process was going on.

Theme of the myth Iris and the birth of Apollon: The gods are flawed, as is shown in the myth: ''Zeus was married to his third wife Hera when he became infatuated with the goddess Leto ... his union with Leto produced Apollon and Artemis. Hera could do nothing to stop Zeus's philandering but she could make Leto's life complicated and painful'' (Mythagora.com). As is shown in the quote Zeus is showing imperfections if we talk about values, he is being unfaithful with the goddesses because he is married to three instead of one, here he is showing unfaithfulness, also Zeus is showing lust of women having more than one wife, and Hera is showing jealously, anger, envy, when she is trying to make Leto suffer in pain because she was married to Zeus and because she was about to give birth.

values in the myth of Iris and the birth of Apollon: braveness, caring, solidarity: ''When Leto was looking for a place to give birth to Apollon she was rebuffed by the Nymphs and goddesses of every land and island she visited until she arrived on the island belonging to the goddess Delos ... the Nymphs and goddesses who refused to accommodate Leto were justifiably afraid that Hera would punish them if they assisted Leto. Delos was aware of the risks but she was also confident that Zeus would protect her as long as Apollon maintained his residence on her island'' (Mythagora.com).

This quote explains and shows that the goddess Delos was showing solidarity and generosity when she was offering Leto her island to stay and give birth to Apollon, also she showed caring when she was attending her, and braveness when she was aware of the risks with the goddes Hera if she helped Leto and anyways she decided to help her.

Theme of the myth Iris and the Trojan war, it is possible to help and be faithful with everyone. In the myth was wrote: ''Iris took no side in the war and advised both armies as Zeus commanded. She helped the Trojan commander, Hektor and likewise his most hated enemy, Achilles with equal faithfulness''(Mythagora.com). This quote means that the goddess Iris showed that she could help everyone, even in a war and be faithful with everyone, being fair with everyone in the war when she helped both armies equally.

The values of the myth are faithfulness, and justice, as it is demonstrated in the last quote, because Iris helped both armies equally, she didn't help more one than another, she is showing justice, she is being fair and faithful with both armies.

Discussion Statement

Zeus and Hera and other goddesses or gods are like any human being they have values but they also have sins. In the myth of Iris and the birth of Apollon is shown: ''Zeus was married to his third wife Hera when he became infatuated with the goddess Leto ... his union with Leto produced Apollon and Artemis. Hera could do nothing to stop Zeus's philandering but she could make Leto's life complicated and painful'' (Mythagora.com).

In this quote Zeus is having the sin of being unfaithful with his wives, having not just one, also he is showing the sin of having lust of women having three at the same time, and Hera is showing anger, and jealously of Zeus and Leto, that's why they are like human beings, because the gods are supposed to be perfect but they also have flaws like humans, in this myth.
