WHAT IS AUTISM

Autism is a mental condition, present from early childhood, characterized by difficulty in communicating and forming relationships with other people and in using language and abstract concepts.

CHARACTERISTICS OF AUTISM

Some characteristics that you might see in an individual with autism are very little or no eye contact, resistance to being held or touched, speech is abnormally loud or quiet,difficulty whispering, obsession with objects,ideas or desires, and exceptionally high skill in some subject and very low in others.

POTENTIAL RISK FACTORS

The causes of Autism still remain unknown but experts think that they have found out certain factors that may increase the risk. Genetics may play a part. You can develop it from siblings or parents that have Autism. You may even develop autism if you have certain chromosomal conditions.

PREVENTION STRATIGIES

You can’t prevent having a child with autism but you can lower your risk if you don’t take drugs during pregnancy, Avoid alcohol, Seek treatment for existing health conditions, and get vaccinated

SYMPTOMS

Some symptoms that you can see in a person who has autism are that they fail to respond to his or her name or appears to not hear you sometimes, they have poor eye contact and lack facial expressions.

TREATMENT

Autism is not curable but there are some treatment options for toddlers such as receiving structured, therapeutic activities for at least 25 hours a week.
