Surrealism was an art form I gravitated to from an early point in my art career. As I progress into the journey of college and the next chapter in my life, I wished to use my surrealistic influences to create obscure images representing societal constructs I found ‘ironic’.The pieces are meant to be thought provoking, interacted with, and possibly disagreed with. The purpose of the work is ideally to spark conversations while the visual aspects of the art are enjoyed. The reason I gravitated toward Surrealism was because both the open endedness in meaning and the open endedness in terms of what I could create. The composition of each piece as a result is meant to capture a scene. As I was building my art portfolio, I found myself enjoying street art as it shared a similar style to surrealism. This is most apparent in my later work where the two styles are meant to complement each other. When the audience looks at my art, I hope the audience will be able to connect with the work on their own, but also form a better understanding of who I am. More importantly, my goal is for the audience to learn about themselves, what they agree with and also what they find discomfort in.
