Genova 2016 Interactions in the Mediterranean: Exchange, Conflict and Cooperation

The call for individual delegates for the first Academic Forum of EYP Italy is officially open.

From the 1st to the 5th of September 2016, Genova will host more than 90 university students from all around Europe who will gather to exchange ideas and visions on topical and relevant issues affecting the Mediterranean region today. Genova 2016 will be a platform for active citizenship and intercultural dialogue, where participants will engage in discussions and debates under the theme "Interactions in the Mediterranean: Exchange, Conflict and Cooperation".

What is EYP?

The European Youth Parliament (EYP) is a unique educational programme which brings together young people from all over Europe to discuss current topics in a parliamentary setting. As a network of independent associations, EYP is present in 40 European countries and organises almost 600 events every year, involving close to 35.000 participants.

EYP methodology

A series of group exercises aimed at helping the participants define their own rules and working procedures, adapted to their personalities and guided by volunteers with years of experience. During this first day, the participants will learn to overcome prejudice in an atmosphere of constructive discussions, constant feedback and mutual help, strengthening both their spirit and ability to work as a team.

Committee Work

Over the following two days, each of the recently formed Committees will face the challenge of writing a Motion for a Resolution on one of the various topics of debate. Departing from the knowledge gathered during the long period of preparation before the event, the students will work to find solutions that are both adequate and innovative. This work will then be compiled into a Motion for a Resolution to be shared with all the participants.

General Assembly

The final day of the Forum will bring together all the participants at a plenary session where each Motion for a Resolution will be presented, debated and voted. The adopted Resolutions will be compiled and distributed to all relevant civil society actors, as well as regional, national and international policymakers.

The European Youth Parliament Italy, the Italian branch of the EYP, is organising its very first Academic Forum in Genova from September 1 to September 5, 2016. The theme of the Forum will be

Interactions in the Mediterranean: Exchange, Conflict and Cooperation

At the Forum we will be using the EYP methodology, with one day of Team Building, two days of Committee Work and one day of General Assembly. It will therefore be a great opportunity for all those who are eager to experience a dynamic work method and are open to debate their ideas in an international environment.

Participants are asked to arrive on September 1, before 12:30, as activities will start at 14:00. The event will end on September 5, and participants are free to leave at any time. English will be the only working language of the event.

We are looking for 70 motivated delegates, willing to take part in the Forum and bring their ideas and points of view to this event, conceived as a real think tank for young European university students. We are looking to create a diverse group of international participants with regards to fields of studies, gender, experience in EYP or in similar organisations/at similar events. Please note that EYP experience is not a prerequisite: the Forum is open to any university student above 18 years of age.

There will be a participation fee of 70 €, to be paid after your selection to the Forum is confirmed. The fee will cover accommodation and meals throughout the event (please note that the fee is just a very partial cover of the total expenses). Travel to and from Genova and all other activities outside the official program of the event will be at your own expenses.
