PMTM | Style Guide KAELA SPEICHER PHOTOGRAPHY

Welcome!

Use this guide to plan out your wardrobe for your PMTM photoshoot. We'll ease our way in and start with the basics. You'll be styling and photo ready in no time!

COLORS

Gemstone and earth tone colors look great on everyone. Simple solid color tops that use these colors are perfect for headshots. For commercial looks, stay away from solid black, gray, and white.

HEADSHOT

Solid color tops are recommended for a headshot look. Bring options that show off your eye or hair color. Stay away from low necklines. Avoid busy patterns and textures, the focus should be on you. To add variety, you can add layers to your headshot outfit. For example, a solid colored shirt with a jean jacket, blazer, or cardigan.

STYLES

FORMAL - girls

Solid color dress and heels, ankle boots, or wedges. Layer with a jacket or blazer to mix it up. A skirt with a form-fitting blouse is a great option as well. Be sure the skirt falls at a proper length according to your height. With your arms resting down by your side, finger tip length is a good rule of thumb for minimum skirt length.

FORMAL - guys

Blazer, cardigan, or a form-fitting button up shirt with dress slacks. Pair with dress shoes and a belt to complete the look.

CASUAL - girls

Solid color top with jeans paired with heels, boots, or Converse sneakers. Mix casual and formal with a v-neck shirt, dressy blazer, jeans, and heels. Or a dress with button up long sleeve shirt to wrap around the waist.

CASUAL - guys

Jeans, khakis, casual button up shirt, jean jacket, or solid color polo shirts are great options.

WARDROBE PREP

Please have all clothes steamed/ironed, lint rolled, and remove any tags. Have all wardrobe on hangers and inside wardrobe bags or garbage bags for protection.

Once you start gathering wardrobe options, feel free to email us images of each outfit to studio@kaelaspeicher.com. This is optional but recommended. Full body cell phone pictures work great. This gives me an idea of how everything fits and will photograph prior to the shoot. Knowing the outfits ahead time, can be helpful for selecting the best backgrounds to complement your wardrobe, and allow time to make any changes before the shoot day.

INSPIRATION BOARDS

FACE AND HAIR PREP

-Per our makeup artist's request, please arrive with a completely bare and clean face. No makeup or moisturizers. If you have any skin sensitivities or allergies, it is your responsibly to notify us ahead of time and mention this to the makeup artist. We are happy to use products specifically for skin sensitivities.

-Do not pluck eyebrows the morning of the shoot, as this will show swelling and redness. Any waxing, plucking, or bleaching should be done no less than 1 week before the shoot day.

-Girls: please bring along your own foundation and powder and any of your go-to hair styling products for touchups.

-Hair should be completely dry and free from products. 1-2 day unwashed (non-greasy) hair is best for styling.

-Ethnic hair: please bring along any hair products and tools that you use for styling. If your hair requires more advance styling, please notify us ahead of the shoot.

-Shoot days require a lot of energy so be sure to get some extra ZZZs and drink plenty of water. H20 will keep your skin hydrated and give your face a camera ready glow.

NAILS

-Nails should be clean, trimmed, and manicured with natural rounded edges.

-If using polish, a fresh and even coat of clear polish or a nude color like taupe are recommended. Nude tones are universally flattering and work with any outfit. Your nails should look natural and not distract.

-Girls: bring your nail polish to the shoot for any touch ups.

Photos show a natural nail length and shape with nude nail polish shades.

THE DAY OF THE SHOOT

-While sitting for hair and makeup application, please avoid wearing excessively tight clothes (especially jeans), hair ties, or anything tight around your wrists the morning of the shoot. These can leave red indentation marks on the skin.

-If shooting outside, please bring umbrellas, ponchos, jackets, and blankets to be weather ready.

-Shoots require high energy. Bring snacks to munch on throughout the day to refuel.

-Please alert me if you have any existing medical conditions that may require attention during the shoot. We are happy to work at a pace where you are most comfortable and take any necessary precautions.
