FUN FACT! :They can spread by attaching to fishing lines, downriggers, anchor ropes, and fishing nets. While female waterfleas die out of water, under certain conditions they produce eggs that resist drying and freezing, and can establish a new infestation. They also can be transported in bilge water, bait buckets, or livewells.

this video will give you info about hwo the spiny water flea is so invasive and examples on how you can help.
it have spread for decades, the mostly spread from being on boats and the boat might take the spiny water fleas to another lake. The spiny water flea destroys the food chain by eating the animals that the predators eat.
WHAT YOU CAN DO:
Clean all aquatic plants, animals and mud from watercraft, trailers, docks, lifts, anchors and other recreational equipment before leaving access. Waterfleas may appear as gelatinous or cotton batting-like material on lines, especially where lines meet a swivel, lure or downrigger ball connection.
Drain water-related equipment (boat, ballast tanks, portable bait containers, motor) and drain bilge, livewell and baitwell by removing drain plugs before leaving water access. Keep drain plugs out while transporting watercraft.
Dispose of unwanted bait, worms and fish parts in the trash.
Spray watercraft and equipment with high-pressure water, or
Rinse with very hot water, or dry for at least 5 days.
save the food chain and many lakes by perventing the spiny water flea from being invasive. we can all work together to make this happen! STOP THE SPINY WATER FLEA!
