Building Resilient Neighborhoods and Cities Tegucigalpa, HONDURAS

PROJECT OVERVIEW: This project builds a joint strategy with the Central District’s Municipality, USAID/OFDA, and GOAL to increase resilience in existing or new informal settlements that are experiencing uncontrolled expansion, thus creating conditions for sustainable urban development. Currently, the Central District’s Municipality implements a resilience strategies in different neighborhoods. Additionally, municipal authorities are present and are accompanying this process with authentic participation. The neighborhood approach represents the best way to ensure that urban-level support initiatives are relevant to the people in need. The municipal units have highlighted the development of actions that promote the participation of women, children, youth, the elderly and people with disabilities. This has allowed us to form a protection approach that has focused on meeting the needs, interests and rights of women, children, youth, and seniors in the neighborhoods where comprehensive risk management actions are developed.
