J.R. Briggs Family Newsletter March 20th, 2019

Thank you to all of the families that were able to attend the Wizards game last week. We had a ton of students there!

Calendar Correction

The next early release day will be May 31st and not June 7th, as previously published. The Friday before Graduation Sunday - June 2nd is a district-wide traditional half day for building based activities and it was recorded in error. Attached is the corrected calendar.

Substitutes Wanted

As a district we are looking for more substitutes. If you have a desire to come in and work with students, please click here to find the packet needed to apply. We would love to have you join us at JRB!

ALiCE Parent Information Night/Morning

Thank you to all of the parents/guardians that were able to attend either of our two ALiCE presentations. Starting next week, we will be speaking with our classes individually about lockdowns and evacuations due to unsafe conditions. If you want to know the basics, please view the YouTube video of the book we will be using for grades K-3.

Down Syndrome Day Recognition and Fundraiser Thursday!

March 21st is World Down Syndrome Day. Many schools around the area have been selling socks to wear for that day with the proceeds going to a variety of support and research programs. At JRB we will ask students to wear their funkiest socks and bring in a dollar if possible to donate to the NDSS (National Down Syndrome Society). It would be great if we can raise funds to support the important work the NDSS does to promote the value, acceptance and inclusion of people with Down Syndrome. Homeroom teachers will collect the donations at the beginning of the day, but we would also welcome any other donations in the front office.

MCAS Schedule

April and May bring along our MCAS assessments for grades 3, 4, and 5. In order to plan as far in advance as possible, here are the proposed session dates for 2019.

ELA

  • Grade 5- Wednesday, April 10 and Thursday, April 11.
  • Grade 4- Tuesday, April 23 and Wednesday, April 24.
  • Grade 3- Thursday, April 25 and Friday, April 26.

Math

  • Grade 5- Tuesday, April 30th and Wednesday, May 1.
  • Grade 4- Thursday, May 2 and Friday, May 3.
  • Grade 3- Tuesday, May 7 and Wednesday, May 8.
