These are the lessons of the final Sunday after Pentecost before the church year begins anew with Advent. It has only very recently within the last 100 years also taken on the name of Christ the King Sunday in certain Churches, as an attempt to counter the destructive forces of secularism in our modern world, and as a reminder that in the end, Christ is King.
Alleluia. Blessed is the one who comes in the Lord, and blessed is the coming kingdom of our ancestor David. Alleluia.

Holy God, our refuge and strength, you have redeemed your scattered children, gathering them from all the corners of the earth through your firstborn, the Christ, in whom all things are held together. Make us a just and righteous people, worthy by grace to inherit with him the kingdom of light and peace where He reigns with you and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
