Headteacher Comment

Well, I think you have all done a marvellous job during Lockdown 3.0 but we really are looking forward to seeing you all back at school on Monday. Your child's class teachers will have been in touch with you and helped to reassure your child. You have been sent a lot of information about your child's return, including their start and finish times and the COVID safety measures in place at school. So, if you haven't yet, do check back and read all of our communications.

Throughout this period I have thanked you for your ongoing support. You really have been tremendous in making the whole lockdown schooling less stressful for us. Thank you. I have received many, many messages of support and thanks from you and have passed these onto the staff here at Greenfields. It is appreciated.

Finally, staff across the David Ross Education Trust have recorded a little song to welcome you and your children back to school. Enjoy...

Enjoy the weekend and see you next week.

Year Six Discover Life as a Doctor

Year 6 were incredibly privileged this week to have the opportunity to speak with Sofia Gonzalez Chacon, who is paediatric surgeon working in the NHS. She discussed her journey to becoming a doctor in her home country of Venezuela and how, due to the deterioration and instability of the political and economic environment in her country, she made the incredibly hard decision to leave and seek asylum in the UK. She discussed the importance of following your dreams, and how at times this may seem too hard and impossible – but always get back up and try again. The children asked some challenging questions about her work and journey to the UK, including; “What did it feel like when you lost your first child in surgery?” “How does it feel when you save a life?” “What is it like being an asylum seeker and leaving your home?”

The class are hugely grateful to Sofia for giving up her time to talk with us, and for being so informative and open about her life and work.

World Book Day in Year Four/Five

For World Book Day, fantastic Mr Hughes put together a variety of activities to challenge the children on World Book Day . To celebrate their chosen book, Fantastic Mr Fox by Roald Dahl, there were wanted posters, origami foxes, word searches, the opportunity to create your own feast and proving most popular was den building. Even Mr Hughes was in character! The children thoroughly enjoyed the day and the chance to get creative.

Ben Pritchard - GB Paralympic Rower

Thanks to DRET Sport and the Inspiration Fund, numerous pupils from Greenfields Primary School and Nursery and across the wider Trust, had the opportunity to join Paralympian rower Ben Pritchard live via YouTube. The children chosen were selected by their teachers as pupils who display sporting promise. Ben has definitely inspired them to strive for the top.

World Book Day Celebrations

This week children In our bubbles and at home celebrated World Book Day. Mrs Wensley’s story of choice was Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by J.K.Rowling. The children joined a live meeting in the morning and listened to chapter one of the story. They then completed Harry Potter themed activities at home including making their own bookmarks, homemade Quidditch and creating their own student ID cards to get them in to Hogwarts. They all made some FANTASTIC homemade costumes which can be found on the Padlet button below. The children also enjoyed the new Virtual Library which can be found below also - we hope you enjoy it too!

You will need your child’s email address and password, and the class codes below:

Home School Agreement

As we become more used to our online way of working, we thought it was important to add to our home/school agreement (that you signed when your child started at Greenfields) to include online learning. Please follow the link below to complete this short addition relating to online learning with Greenfields Primary School and Nursery.

Class Code and Google Link

Teachers are looking forward to posting their ‘Flipping Greenfields’ videos this Friday in time for the weekend. Each one is all about next week’s learning, so will get your child prepared for a flying start on Monday. Research shows that children who feel prepared for the coming week are less anxious about school, happier to get up and go on a Monday morning and achieve better than those who are not.

Breakfast Club

Notification of price increase starting September 2021

As you know Greenfields offer wraparound care from 7.30am until 6pm every school day. Unfortunately, due to the continued strain on budgets we have had to increase the cost of Breakfast Club.

From September the price will be £3 per child per day. The £3 charge is used to staff the Breakfast Club regardless if your child attends at 7.30am or 8.15am. Of course you will still be required to book your place in advance of care required. Please understand we have not taken this increase lightly but unfortunately we have no alternative.

Drumming Lessons

We are lucky to be able to offer a wide range of music lessons to pupils at Greenfields Primary School & Nursery, and we now have a limited number of spaces for drumming lessons for pupils from Year 2 – Year 6. Please see the attached letter from our drumming tutor Mark McHarg with details on how you can secure your child a space.
