Black History Month Celebration Events within the Winston-Salem Community

  • Sunday, February 10:
  • February 12th: Movie-The Duke is Tops, 7pm Aperture Cinema (not a campus sponsored event).
  • February 19th: Movie-Stormy Weather, 7m Aperture Cinema (not a campus sponsored event).
  • February 19th, 4 pm: Central Library Makerspace (660 W. Fifth St., Winston-Salem, NC 27101) 3D S.T.E.M Building a Fighter Jet - We will be printing the parts of a fighter jet plane and putting it together. The inspiration for this activity is Phoebe Jeter, a South Carolina native and alumna of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. She is a retired U.S Army Major and the first Air Defense Artillery Officer to lead a platoon that destroyed a SCUD missile during Desert Storm in Iraq. Ages 10 and up. Registration is encouraged.   • February 26th: Movie-The Wiz, 7pm Aperture Cinema (not a campus sponsored event).
  • February 26th: 6:30 p.m. at Southside Branch Library (3185 Buchanan St., Winston-Salem, NC). Join us as Greater Vision Dance Company presents a boot dance performance and discusses the origins of African-American traditional step dance. (Not a campus sponsored event)
  • March 2nd: Finale Show, 7pm Bryant Hall (hosted by BADU)

Salem Academy and Christ School students will be joining together to go to the Kelly Clarkson concert happening on Saturday, March 30, 2019. Salem Academy and Christ School students will travel together to the concert on Saturday evening. Once the concert is complete, Academy students will spend the night at Christ School before return back to campus on Sunday. Times for the trip will be posted as the event come closer. 2019 Cupids and Mortals is here! Cupids and Mortals is Salem's version of "Secret Santa" inspired by Valentine's Day. From February 12 - 14, Cupids will be giving gifts to their mortals, with the reveal day on the 14th.

Salem Academy will be attending Christ School's Valentine's dance. Before arriving at the dance, students will also have the opportunity to visit and shop in Asheville. We will be eating dinner in Asheville, so students are encouraged to bring money for food and souvenirs.

School transportation will be leaving from Salem at 3:30 pm, so please meet in the reception room at 3:15 pm.

The event will feature performances by DJ Irie Child. Free Food & Beverages for the Teens will be provided by Terrance Hawkins & LIT CITY. There will also be giveaways & exciting surprises!

About The Word of Mouth Teen Experience:

The brainchild of well-known spoken word artist and activist Larry “LB The Poet” Barron, WOMTE is a spinoff of Word of Mouth Wednesday, a monthly showcase of local spoken word artists and performers. A 2008 graduate of Carver High School, Barron said after connecting with students at Main Street Academy and Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy, he felt the need to create a space where teens can express themselves.

Along with the spoken word showcase, WOMTE also featured a vendor fair of local teen entrepreneurs.

The Word of Mouth Teen Experience will be held on the third Saturday of every month at Arts for Arts Sake headquarters, 630 N. Liberty Street.

The ticket cost includes DJ, photo wall and refreshments. This is a charity event and proceeds from this event will go toward Kaleideum. Note: this event is only open to senior students (Class of 2019).

Hargrave Military Academy

Hargrave Military Academy is inviting Salem Academy students to their annual military ball. The military ball is Hargrave’s version of prom. Also, Hargrave is seeking students who are willing to participate in the promenade ceremony, which honors Hargrave’s senior officers.

It is a great opportunity to support another school and have fun at the same time! Also, if you just want to participate in the dance, you can! For more information about the ball, please click here.

*The 5:00 pm shuttle is the last pick up round for students. The shuttle returns to school by 6:00 pm.

Students may not take any other transportation that is not provided by the school.

Second Harvest Food Bank is offering multiple chances for the Academy community to give back to the Winston-Salem through various volunteer dates and times beginning in October through January.
