February 2017 newsletter

On March 8th, International Women’s Day, we celebrate the inspiring and courageous work women around the world are doing to secure women’s rights and shape more tolerant and equitable societies. We also reflect on the work that remains and remember the many women whose voices go unheard and who continue to be excluded from realising their full potential.

With more than 100 International Women's Days (IWD) gone by, IWD remains meaningful because we see young feminist activists claiming this day as their own, gathering at the forefront of today's most heated disputes, demanding access to abortion, amplifying voices of sex workers, or seeking justice for the disappearances of women human rights defenders. Today’s women are casting off the taboo of feminism, applying new social media technologies and drawing on the arts to make these celebrations relevant and expressive of multiple realities, identities, and movements.

Therefore, in recognition of International Women’s Day, it is the hope of IWI that you share a laugh with us in an event showcasing London’s funniest female comedians. The proceeds from the event will be used for our programmes and outreach.

International Women's Day Event:

In celebration of International Women's Day, IWI is hosting a comedy night with some of London’s best female comedians!

Being held at The Star King on March 7, 2017, the aim of the Stand Up for IWI! Comedy Night is to raise awareness and funds in support of IWI's programmes and advocacy outreach.

Beginning at 7pm, the comedy night will bring together guests for an evening of laughter, drinks and fun to support IWI’s efforts to bring attention to women’s human rights globally, specifically our flagship project The Safe Birthing Programme.
