Christmas in Portugal

In Portugal people make a creche. A creche is a scene that contains three biblistic charecters such as the Baby Jesus, Virgin Mary, and St Joseph. Most families only have the three main figures while other families have an elaborate scene including angels, vilage people, farm animals, mountains, and rivers. Once it is christmas eve people have a "Consoada". It contains codfish with green vegetables and boiled potatoes. Sometimes, it is also eaten with shellfish, wild meats, and other expensive foods. Then everyone goes to a special mass where an image of baby jesus is shown and everyone comes up to kiss it. Once the families go home they get to open up to 2 presents before mignight. Then i n the morning they open the rest.
