Playwrights were not considered to be of much consequence during the period, so he may have also been inspired to write poetry to prove himself as a writer. In 1593, Shakespeare's poem "Venus and Adonis" was published by Richard Field, a London printer. A year later,Field published Shakespeare ’s second long poem, "The Rape of Lucrece. (ForsterMatt231)


It is believed that Shakespeare started to write poetry because of the fact that playwrights were not considered to be of much consequence at the time. In 1593 the poem "Venus and Adonis" was published by a London Printer . In 1594 Shakespeare was inspired to write his second longest poem "The Rape of Lucrece ".(Lander301)

Romeo and Juliet was probably among the early plays that Shakespeare wrote, between 1594 and 1596. By 1612, when he returned to Stratford to live the life of a prosperous retired gentleman, Shakespeare had written thirty-seven plays including masterpieces such as Julius Caesar, Hamlet, Othello, King Lear, and Macbeth.(Austin201)

At the time of his retirement , Shakespeare had written 37 plays. This includes the masterpieces such as " Julius Caesar, Hamlet, Othello, King Lear, and Macbeth.
