Interactive Media is the exploration and practice of visual communication which uses digital platforms to convey ideas and information.

Typography, images, and meaning are integrated to visually communicate and inform intended audiences. With the addition of visual movement, navigation, and sound, digital projects are developed and presented.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Welcome to the Interactive Media Program (INM)

  • CREDENTIAL - Ontario College Diploma
  • DURATION - 4 Semesters (2 Years)
  • REQUIRED - Field Placement (120-160 Hours) or Capstone Project
  • IN SCHOOL TIME INVESTMENT - Approx. 20 hours in class per week
  • HOMEWORK TIME INVESTMENT - Additional 15-20 hours of homework
  • GRADUATION - Minimum GPA to graduate is 2.0

FULL-TIME JOB + FULL TIME SCHOOL

The INM program requires a full-time commitment of about 40+ hours a week including in and out of class work. The program cannot be managed asynchronously and with the addition of a full-time job, successfully fulfilling the needs of the program would be next to impossible.

OUR FACILITIES

Seneca@York - Advanced Technology Campus: Steven E Quinlan (SEQ) & DB Buildings

Student commitment combined with faculty’s dedication to curriculum excellence has led to years of student successes.

Using research, critical thinking, creativity and a range of problem-solving principles, interactive designers solve complex visual problems within the constraints of time, budget and technology.

GENERAL EDUCATION SUBJECTS (Gen Eds)

You MUST complete at least THREE general education courses from the following categories:

  • One course from Sciences and Social Sciences
  • One course chosen from either of the above categories.

** Visit your online Student Home for additional information on the academic requirements that you will need to graduate from your program **

ETIQUETTE

RESPECTING PROFESSORS TIME

Most of your professors have other jobs and some work full-time - they are very busy people! Their response time will be within 24-48 hours. Please do NOT send multiple emails within this time frame, it is unprofessional.

  • Please respect their time as they respect yours.
  • You can expect replies from Monday to Friday, between 9AM-5PM.

ALSO - The beginning & end of all semesters are VERY busy, so replies may take longer. Please be patient and it never hurts to PLAN AHEAD.

FIELD PLACEMENT

If you wish to attend convocation with your group, you need to complete your FP within 5-6 weeks of finishing your final semester, we will provide the exact date when the time comes. Here's what you need to know:

  • A Field Placement is a graduation REQUIREMENT
  • You must be a student to do a field placement.
  • A resume & portfolio are required to apply for a Field Placement
  • Placement is for a MINIMUM of 120 hours but expect to intern for 160 hours.
  • Field placements are typically not paid
  • Students with a GPA of 3.6 or higher (at the end of 3rd semester) have 3 options: 1) Receive assistance with their placement OR 2) Find their own placement OR 3) Do the capstone project.
  • Students with a GPA of 3.5 or lower (at the end of 3rd semester) must either find their own placement which must be approved by the Program Coordinator first, OR they can do the capstone project.
  • If ANY student wants to find their own placement, that’s fine, but it must be approved by the Program Coordinator first, or it will not be recognized as a placement.
  • Placements usually carry over past the end of the 4th semester, which is normal & OK. Students usually start just before 4th semester ends.
  • Guidance for this will be in 4th semester classes INM425 & 415 (Portfolio + Resume + Paperwork + More)
  • If you find your own placement you still must take the INM415/425 courses, a PLA will not be granted.
  • The courses INM415/425 are the last courses to take in the INM program.
