The book thief themes By Jake Strand

The Power Of Words

"A small but noteworthy note. I've seen so many young men over the years who think they're running at other young men. They are not. They are running at me.” (87)

If you are looking at the book through the eyes of death then you can see how Zusak uses the power of words to give you perspective on how serious the war was and how life came to a halt and how survival was the main goal of over half the population of Germany .The main objective was to commit genacide with the least amount of fight back from the population.

The Nazis used the power of words to intimidate people from using force. it was easy for them to overthrow the people after they had scared them with words. The power of words is immense.

In this ted talk she explains how words can change our way of thinking without us even knowing.

Propoganda controls opinions

Propaganda tends to cover up what is really going on and helps the suspects get away with more because of misinformation.

"She was saying goodbye and she didn't even know it."(186)

The nazis used propoganda to speak to many different ages of people, they used nazi schooling for young people , and for older people they used the strategy of saying that the holocaust would fix the problems with society.

I linked a ted talk about propoganda and how it is used for good , evil , and tricking the minds of younger generations.

Ignorance is bliss

Ignorance or just ignoring a certain subject can make a person feel as if nothing is happening, if you pretend you do not see evil then evil does not exist.

"It kills me sometimes how people die"

I'm the book thief it shows how the "aryans" turned a blind eye to the suffering of the Jews and just ignored it.

In Germany they ignored the holocaust for the first couple of years because they wanted to seem to other country's that nothing was happening and how they just had a new leader.
