Holiday stop for lunch at Mazzaro’s Italian Market Story and Photography by Robert Neff

Mazzaro’s Italian Market in St. Petersburg, Florida is a tourism destination.

All the regulars and staff know that a chair tilted against the counter means you have that spot and have gone to grab lunch, dessert or are picking up a few items, and will be right back. Luckily the person in the middle had his basket in the seat to his left, so the seat was free. Then he announced he was leaving! By the way, this is my favorite seat because it’s next to the gelato counter.

Capaccuino before 11 is the way Italians do it. It was 10:59 AM.

Typical shopping cart for the holidays.

Lunch is a #20, Hot Italian.

The three seats next to the gelato are the bestest, because you can watch the bakers bake. Plus that table is where the trays are prepped for the dessert counter.

Maple nut rings count as a food group!

Bread is ready for the today’s holiday shoppers.

I had to go back out for another look!

Chocolate cupcakes!

Sometimes cupcakes follow you home.

But they are for tonight’s dessert. Had to put them in the fridge, where they will be out of sight, but not out of mind.

My book, Pelican Beakon, earned a silver medal at 2017 Florida Authors and Publishers Association President's Book Award in the short story fiction category. The Pelican Beakon is a newspaper for pelicans, by pelicans, and their one staff human photographer who dreams of being writer. Read more about the Pelican Beakon on its website.
