Shooting Assignment 6: Choice/Passion Shoot

For this assignment we could choose anything to shoot. The day I planned on going to take photos it was really grey and rainy so I decided to shoot up close so I did not have to deal with the sky being so gloomy. I have always been a little interested in the way the water falls off of plants when it rained and this weather gave me the opportunity to showcase the way the rain rests on plants.Overall I thought this shot turned out really well and I feel like it was a really nice photo to end this class with.

Sweet tooth

Shooting Assignment 5: Product Shoot

For this shooting assignment I had a really hard time from a creative stand point trying to identify what product I would want to showcase. I knew I wanted to capture something light with a lot of color and I noticed a box of candy in my kitchen and thought it'd make for a great shot. I built a makeshift stage in order to get the white background, and then I made sure to get enough light in the image in order to highlight the different colors in the picture. Overall I think these factors contributed to one of my favorite shots of the trimester.

Jumps

Shooting Assignment 4: Sport Photography

I have been high jumping for 2 years now and I never really thought that I would end up enjoying the sport as much as I have. For this shot I intended to capture the act of making it over the bar and the emotion that went into that. This picture in particular not only shows the act of jumping, but the subjects face also gives off hint of struggle and effort that is being exerted. I was really happy with the way this shoot turned out, and how I was successfully able to capture motion without the subject ending up really blurry.

Swimming Pools

Shooting Assignment 4: Photo-Essay

For this assignment I had a specific vision in mind when I thought of a photo essay. My sister and I have been very involved in the world of competitive swimming for our entire lives. So when I was assigned with shooting a photo essay I thought of no better story to tell than that of a swim practice. I tried to mix in some bright shots as well as some darker shots because there are a lot of ups and downs that come with the sport of swimming. Thats why I used black and white for one shot, then tried to create sort of a silhouette with the sunlight. Overall I felt that my composition and technical skill is shown here and I am very proud of my work as a whole, in terms of story telling, and overall look/feel.

Landscapes

Shooting Assignment 3: Lifestyle

For this shooting assignment it was directed to reflect a certain kind of feel to it. I tried to focus on landscapes for this lifestyle shoot. I was in Europe when this shoot was assigned and I really wanted to focus on the beautiful scenery that was in front of me for this assignment. I felt that a landscape style photoshoot would best reflect that. Overall the assignment went very well as I was able to take the kinds of pictures I had wanted to and they turned out really nice in Photoshop.

Annoyance

Shooting assignment 2: Self-Portrait

This second assignment was to use the count down feature on the camera to be able to take a picture of yourself. This was harder than I thought it was going to be. I did not realize how difficult it was to prefocus the camera so my pictures did not come out blurry. Balancing that, with the proper amount of lighting was a hard thing to do for me, but it all ended up working out in the end. One thing that went well was the overall enjoyment I had while taking the pictures. It was fun to sit in front of the camera and make different poses/faces.

Basics

Shooting Assignment 1- Composition

The first shooting assignment was a series of 8 different photos that had to be taken that reflected 8 composition techniques. This was challenging for me to say the least, I haven't taken a photography class in over 2 years so it was a struggle trying to re-familiarize myself with the camera. I didn't mind the overall assignment, it allowed me to get out of the house and experience nature which I really enjoyed, but I noticed while editing my photos that I am lacking a few key compositional techniques. One of the main ones that I think I lack is making sure to get the camera 100% focused before I take a shot. In photoshop I notices that I had a lot of photos that were slightly out of focus and that definitely gives me something to work on in the future. Also coming into a class with not having used photoshop in a long time was difficult as I forgot how to do a lot of the things I previously learned. This led to some photos getting under edited as I did not know what to do as far as making a completely balanced image in terms of touch up and lighting. As for what went well, I think that enjoying myself while shooting was really a surprise. In Digital 1 I always felt like taking pictures was a task more than something that could be fun, but this assignment reshaped my view to see that it is indeed possible to enjoy taking pictures.
