Range

20 Isolated Patches in Western China. The only remaining giant panda habitat is on the mountainous eastern edge of west China, in Sichuan, Shaanxi, and Gansu provinces. Giant Pandas mainly live in Sichuan Province.

Diet

In the wild, 99 percent of a panda's diet consists of leaves, stems and shoots of the bamboo plant, while the remainder is made up of flowers, vines, grasses, green corn, honey and small rodents. Pandas in captivity are fed bamboo, sugar cane, rice gruel, carrots, apples and sweet potatoes.

Physical description

Giant pandas have a distinctive black and white coat, with black fur around their eyes and on their ears, muzzle, legs and shoulders. Their thick, wooly coat helps to keep them warm in their cool mountain homes. ... An adult panda can weigh up to 150kg, with males 10% larger and 20% heavier than females.

Giant pandas reach sexual maturity at 5.5 to 6.5 years. it takes 2-7 days for reproduction. A female can mate with several males, who compete over her. A male will seek out different females who are on heat. The mating season is in spring between March and May

Giant pandas are one of the cutest animals in the world. They are good climbers and can also swim. They don't build dens like other bears (except to put cubs in) or hibernate. If it is too cold up in the mountains they head down to the valleys where it is warmer.

Pandas are usually born in August, because the panda's mating months are March to May and gestation is 3 to 5 months.As about all a panda does all day is eat and sleep, you are best to get up early for a visit to a panda park, so you see them when they are active.
