Sinquefield Invention Lab "Experience the future today"

The Sinquefield Invention Lab is a mobile trailer, custom built to serve the community by teaching Scouts and non-Scouters how to be innovators and bring what's in their mind into the physical world.

WLACC's mobile Invention Lab is an exciting and innovative addition to our program. This cutting-edge lab designed specifically for hands-on invention activities houses 3D printers, a Laser engraver and cutter, 3D scanner, robotics, embroidery machine, scan and cut, milling equipment, and the computers to make it all work. Paper, plastic, vinyl, and wood are the canvas for ideas and inventions.

The program is expected to expand, reaching at least an additional 28,000 youth. The Invention Lab can visit all of the 459 units contained within WLACC's footprint, which includes over 11,000 scouts, and to Camp Whitsett where 3000 Scouts participate in programs near the Sequoia National Monument.

The Invention Lab is currently located at Camp Josepho, a sprawling property located on 110 acres in the Santa Monica Mountains nestled between Brentwood and Pacific Palisades. Since January 2008, Camp Josepho has renovated the amphitheater, the BBQ areas and the General Store. We have added 13 cabins and Lodge housing, Scout Craft Classroom, Handicraft Lodge and a Mountain Bike Shop. There are some exciting programs at Camp Josepho which include Movie Making, Robotics/Programming/Game Design, Shooting Sports Camp, as well as traditional day camp opportunities. The camp has repurposed itself to serve primarily local scouts with an emphasis on at-risk youth
The entire mission of the Invention Lab is to provide hands-on education through the invention of new ideas through technology. Not only do we desire to provide these kinds of experiences, but we also want to promote the team work and service elements that is the foundation of Boy Scouts overall approach in program delivery.
