HPS Austin Celebrates Black History Month
Throughout Black History Month in February, Harmony Public Schools Austin honors the exceptional achievements and incredible sacrifices of those who came before us in the fight for equality for all. See all the different ways the district honored African-American art, culture, and history.
The student-led Afro-American Society of Harmony Science Academy - Pflugerville hosted the 3rd annual 2020 Black History Month Program celebrating African-American inventors and innovators. ROBOTTER'S INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL
Students from Harmony School of Endeavor - Austin, Harmony School of Science - Austin, Harmony Science Academy - Cedar Park, and Harmony Science Academy - Pflugerville had an exciting time at the International Robotters Festival on February 17th, 2020. From AutoAuto self-driving cars, a flying drone obstacle course, to a Bee-Bot coding map adventure, this competition had it all! HPS Austin students were sponsored to attend the event and compete through ReVisionEd Education.
The Harmony School of Endeavor STEAM Showcase was held the last week of February with many in attendance. During the fair, families learned all about recycled musical instruments, the skeletal system, epidemiology, artificial intelligence, moon phases, to volcanos, and more.
February is National Children's Dental Health Month, and Harmony School of Science celebrated in partnership with the St. David's Foundation Dental Program. All elementary students received free goodie bags filled with dental floss, a toothbrush, and toothpaste this February.
The partnership has not only provided HSS students with the tools and knowledge to keep their teeth healthy but has also given them free dental care with just a few steps away from their classroom. The St. David's Foundation mobile dental van was on-site at HSS and has welcomed many students who were ready for their close-up. HPS Austin thanks the foundation for their support in keeping students cavity-free. We are excited to announce that our partnership will continue with the St. David's Foundation Dental Program this upcoming school year with Harmony School of Innovation and Harmony School of Endeavor.
DENTAL STUDENTS HELP HARMONY BRUSH UP ON ORAL CARE
The Austin Community College Department of Dental Hygiene students visited 1st graders at Harmony School of Innovation in February to teach them about the importance of oral health.
1st-grade students learned about the lasting effects that processed sugar can have on teeth, how to properly brush and floss their teeth daily, and about which foods are healthy and unhealthy to their teeth. The ACC Dental Hygiene students will return at the end of March for their third and final visit of the school year to show 1st graders the tools used at a dental office visit.

HARMONY ART STUDENTS SHINE IN ART COMPETITION
Harmony Science Academy - Pflugerville high school students competed in the Texas Art Education Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE) this February and brought home 18 medals. Take a look at some of the art pieces entered into the competition.
Out of 17 school districts, 32 schools, 78 teachers, and 1826 entries, only 129 pieces advanced to the next level of competition. We are proud to announce that 2 of those pieces were works by HSAPf 12th graders, Shaiza G., and Emely M. This is Shaiza's second year to receive the honor of advancing to the state competition. We wish them both good luck in April as they travel to San Marcos, Texas, for the 2020 High School VASE State competition.
“The competition was fierce this year but we have some amazingly talented students!” said Andrea Rogers, AP Art Teacher.
ENVISIONING THE STATE: MOCK GOVERNMENT IN ACTION
Fueled by their belief in civic duty and power of a well-written piece of legislation, 11th and 12th grade Mock Government students from Harmony Science Academy-Pflugerville and Harmony School of Excellence led round-table discussions about gun reform policy with seven Texas State Capitol staffers.
