What is Sora?
Sora is an app that works on Chromebooks and mobile devices. It is the education-version of OverDrive, which is an eBook and audiobook lending service that many public libraries use.
This is a digital reading library to complement our GUHSD print library collections - it is important we offer reading options via multiple means!
The types of books you will find are traditionally published, high interest books for independent reading, literature circles or book clubs, and to support learning about personal interests.
During the Summer 2020, GUHSD Teacher Librarians worked with ETS to set up access to Sora for all district students and staff. When logging into Sora with your @guhsd.net account, you can check out eBooks and audiobooks from our district's collection (currently pending funding).
What's exciting is that GUHSD has an agreement with the San Diego County Library (SDCL) public library system that serves our community! This means that, even without an SDCL library card, students (and staff) can seamlessly check out and read eBooks and audiobooks from SDCL's extensive digital library just by logging in with an @guhsd.net account.
Please note: There may be wait times until titles are available, and traditional library lending periods apply. As digital materials, though, there are no overdue fines, and items may be renewed if there are no holds.
Ready to try it out?
