In 2015, the population was estimated to be 220,289. It is the fourth-most populous city in Virginia. According to the 2011 National Household Survey, nearly 60% of the residents were immigrants.

The currency used in Richmond is the dollar. One dollar equals 0.94 euros. Each of the coins that are less valuable than 1 $ have a specific name: 0.1 $ penny, 0.5 $ nickel, 0.10 $ dime, 0.25 $ quarter, 0.50 $ half dollar.

Location

Richmond is the capital of Virginia in the United States. It's the center of the Richmond Metropolitan Statistical Area and the Greater Richmond Region, and it's located at the fall line of the James River.

Climate

Richmond has a humid subtropical climate , with hot and humid summers and generally cool winters. Tornadoes are pretty infrequent. You should probably go in autumn if you want cool temperatures.

How to get around

Once you arrive in Richmond, you will need transports to move around this big city. The University of Richmond offers a great transportation system. There are plenty of public buses that can take you to the University, shopping centres, the airport, and much more! If you want to go faster, you can take a train at the Staples Mill Amtrak Station.

Where to eat

Richmond has lots of interesting restaurants. If you like pasta, you should definitely go to Edo's Squid and order a plate of carbonara. To have lunch in a modern restaurant you should visit Amuse Restaurant, which is situated upstairs in the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.

TYPICAL FOOD

One of the most typical food in Richmond is the Gnoochi with Bread Crumbs and bean stew. A very typical dessert are the fried peaches with butter and with vanilla ice cream.
