New! CCS Employee Spotlight

With so many employees working to improve Collegium and maximize the daily experiences of our students, it can be challenging to match names to faces and know everyone involved in helping CCS operate smoothly.

Each week, this new section of our Newsletter will highlight one Collegium employee to allow families and students to get to know them better. Now, when you see a featured employee on campus, you'll have a better chance of being able to greet them by name and strike up a conversation.

Character Counts

Collegium Intramural Programs

Collegium's intramural programs offer a variety of opportunities for K-6th grade students to participate in sports. Our programs focus on athletic fundamentals and social interactions with an emphasis on sportsmanship.

Each program meets four days, after school, from 4:15pm until 5:30pm. Registration is completed by submitting the required registration form and fee by the designated due date. Registration form links are shared in the weekly Newsletter and are posted on the CCS Athletics webpage a few weeks prior to the start of each program.

The table above provides the registration periods and dates for each program.

Soccer intramurals for students in grades 2nd-6th begin in October. To register, complete and return the registration form with payment by Wednesday, September 21, 2016. Participant rosters will be posted on the CCS Athletics webpage on September 30, 2016. Family-specific notifications regarding student participation will not be issued.

CCS Help Wanted: Substitute School Nurses

Valid PA nursing license required. Send resume and copy of the license to HR@ccs.us or complete our application and submit to HR@ccs.us.

Dual Enrollment Information Night

Attention: Juniors, Seniors, and Parents/Guardians

CCS will host a Dual Enrollment Night on Tuesday, September 13th from 7:00pm-9:00pm in the 535 Library. Dual Enrollment is a partnership program with Delaware County Community College that allows Juniors and Seniors to take college courses for credit while still in high school.

If you are interested in attending, please RSVP to Mrs. Tracy Wolfe by Friday, September 9th.

Upcoming College Fair

On Friday, September 16th, CCS will host a college fair. Students in grades 9th-12th will have the opportunity to meet with representatives from colleges and universities, as well as participate in college-centered workshops including:

  • Identifying Career Goals
  • The Vocabulary of College
  • Time Management
  • Building a College Resume
  • Researching Colleges
  • Understanding College Internships

Parents/guardians, we need your help! Talk with your children about this great opportunity. Encourage them to engage the representatives in conversations and gather as much information as possible. If your children are in grades 11th and 12th, you are invited to also attend the college fair with your CCS student. Please take a minute to RSVP for the event.

All Free and Reduced Meal Applications returned at the beginning of the school year have been processed. If you returned a completed application, and have not received a response or update, please contact our Food Service Department at 610-903-1300 ext. 6154.

If your family was approved for Free and Reduced Meals last school year, and you have not returned a complete application for 2016-2017, please do so immediately using the link provided below.

Title I Reading Program

Our Reading Specialists cordially invite parents to learn more about the Title I Reading Program for Grades K-3 (also called R.A.P. or the Reading Assistance Program) on Wednesday, September 9th from 5:30pm-6:00pm in the following locations:

  • 150 Cafeteria/Gym (#826)
  • 468 Multi-Purpose Room

These sessions are designed to provide parents with pertinent information about the criteria used to determine whether a student may benefit from additional reading assistance, as well as what you can expect if your child is eligible to participate. We hope to see you there!

The CCS Home and School Association (HSA)

Serving in a capacity similar to a Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) or Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO), our HSA owes its success to the efforts of our many parent, teacher, and staff volunteers!

Cougar Challenge

The HSA is again sponsoring our Cougar Challenge! This year’s event will be held Friday, September 30th and will focus on our students being active and outside! Last year, our families raised over $26,000 and we want to exceed that amount for 2016-2017. If each CCS family solicits just $100 in donations, we will far exceed our goal. Forms and additional details will be posted on our website beginning Monday, September 12th.

HSA Gratitude and Appreciation

Thanks to all volunteers who came out (on a Saturday!) to help pack and distribute KidStuff Books. Also, the HSA loved meeting families during Back to School Nights for 535 and 515! We had so much fun meeting you and can’t wait to see new faces during Back to School Night events this week. Lastly, we thank all families who participated in our first ever Summer Read-a-Thon. Please submit your Reading Logs, Sponsor Forms, and collected donations as soon as possible - the deadline is September 16th.

KidStuff Book Fundraiser

KidStuff Books will be sent home with the oldest child (K-6th) in each family on Tuesday, September 6th. If you’d like to keep the book, please submit payment using the form provided. If you don’t want to keep the book, please return it ASAP.

Families with students in grades 7th-12th - if you are interested in purchasing books, please send in a payment with your children. Books are $25.00 each. Place each payment in a sealed envelope marked "ATTN: HSA." Please also include your child's name, building, and homeroom teacher information.

On September 17th, we will need volunteers to help collect books, verify orders, and package unsold books for return. Please sign-up using the link below.

School Stores

School Stores in 500, 150, and 468/486 will be open for business starting Wednesday, September 7th. We appreciate everyone already registered to volunteer to make our stores a success. There are some available times and we even added morning times at 468/486. Please sign-up to volunteer (clearances are required) using the link below.

HSA Help Wanted

The HSA Board has a few Committee Chair positions open. We are looking for motivated individuals who are committed to making 2016-2017 a remarkable success. Help is needed in the following areas:

  • Volunteer Coordinator
  • Family Bingo Chair
  • Fundraising Chair
  • Teacher Appreciation Chair

Save the Date

Our first HSA meeting will be Wednesday, September 21st at 6:30pm in the Conference Room of the 435 Building. We can’t wait to meet you there! Not sure that you will be able to make it but still want to be involved with the HSA? Let us know by completing our HSA Interest Form.

Donations Needed

The 500 Music Room is looking for donations of old games to help with some of our class projects. Requested games include:

  • Don't Break the Ice
  • Ladder Ball
  • Don't Spill the Beans
  • Legos
  • Jenga

If you are willing to donate any of games above, please send them in to "Ms. Urbas, 500 Building."

Our 468/486 Building is in need of a durable and lockable equipment shed to store new playground accessories. Exact dimensions requested are 5' x 6' x 3'. Able to donate? Please email Mrs. Fritzinger.

Final Week of K-12 Sock Fundraiser

Our Boys' Varsity Basketball Team is selling Cougar Gear socks that can be worn as part of a student’s regular school uniform. Socks are available in hunter green, maroon, and navy blue, and feature the CCS athletics logo on the front of the sock. The design is similar to popular Nike Elite socks.

Any color may be purchased, but socks must match the uniform shirt when wearing as part of the CCS uniform.

Each pair of socks cost $15.00 and proceeds directly benefit the Boys' Varsity Basketball team. Last year, the team used collected funds for tournament fees, team shoes, and team travel suits. This year, the team is hoping to purchase new uniforms.

School Picture Days

Our School Picture Day schedule is below.

  • 535 Building: Wednesday, Sept. 7th
  • 500 Building: Thursday, Sept. 8th
  • 515 Building: Thursday, Sept. 8th
  • 468/486 Buildings: Thursday, Sept. 8th
  • 150 Building: Friday, Sept. 9th

Order forms were sent home with students last week. While all students will have their photos taken, only those students who have their order envelope and payment or proof of online payment will be able to purchase photos.

If a student forgets their order envelope or is absent, their photo can be re-taken on picture retake day which will be scheduled later this fall.

Students have their pictures taken in their CCS uniforms. If a student’s picture day is on their PE day...it's OK to be in the regular CCS uniform and not the PE uniform.

The class photos are not delivered with your order. As they are compilation photos, not a group photo, they are sent home later in the school year (usually in January/February) after all photos have been taken.

Pictures for the Class of 2017

There are no order forms for senior pictures prior to picture day. A variety of photos will be taken and a proof sheet and order form will be sent home with students a few weeks after picture day. Seniors will receive detailed information from their advisor, Ms. O'Neill.

Community Opportunity

Girl Scouts Recruitment Night is September 14th from 6:30pm until 8:00pm in the 535 Cafeteria. Parents/guardians and girls (ages 5-18) are encouraged to attend. For more information, please email the Girl Scout Coordinator, Jenna Robertson.
