Welcome back to Central Campus 2017-18 School Year

Principal's Message

We are very excited and focused for the new school year.

At Central, we are a team of 21 teachers, 2 administrators, 14 support staff and approx. 360 grade 8 & 9 students.

We look forward to another year where our students are in Academic Pods, groups A or B each grade, where 3 teachers share and teach 3 student groups of 85-90 students.

We continue to offer our students an abundance of skills-based and special-interest courses (Options 9, Exposures 8 and Seminars 8/9) that are designed to prepare them for high school, employment and life. These hands-on, activity-based courses are either 6 or 12 week courses.

Our PE program continues to be year-long including Health and now an Outdoor Education focus. Grade 8s will have this block daily and Grade 9s every second day.

This will be year 2 of our growing Band 8-12 program and year one of Concert Band Seminar for our Grade 8s.

As for Athletics, there will be a full selection of sports for students to play ~ this being the 3rd year in a row with a full roster of coaches and sports teams. Stay tuned for the Fall season and try-out times. Volleyball is fast-approaching, along with Cross-Country running.

We will also continue to use FreshGrade to inform and report on student learning/progress between parents, students and teachers. Stay tuned for more details.

The school day starts @ 8:45am and dismissal is 3:00pm. Our weekly block schedule is 5 blocks daily with a rotating block schedule for each day with 3 blocks in the morning with a 10 minute break and 2 blocks in the afternoon. We also use an alternating day 1 and day 2 rotation with our year-long courses so that they are every second day. Four of our blocks will be 60 minutes while Block C, which always before Lunch, is 76 min. Lunch break is from 12:16 to 12:50 pm for 35 minutes followed by 5 minutes to get to class. Afternoon classes starts @ 12:55pm.

Our yearbook will be created by the Yearbook club this year. We are doing online orders for the yearbook this year. If you would like your student to have a yearbook, please click on the link below. Yearbooks will be $50 until Christmas and then will go up to $60.

If you gave permission for your child to have internet access for research and school work last year, we are carrying this over to this year. If you wish to revoke this access, please contact the office at (250) 784 7676.

If you gave permission for emails to be sent to you but you would like to no longer receive them, please also contact the office. Thank you.

Open House

Our annual Open House will be happening on September 27, 2017 between 6:30pm and 8:00pm. Please come and meet all the teachers, especially those new to our team. We are excited to be working with your child and we want you to start to get to know us all. See you there.

We will be using FreshGrade again this year to connect parents to their student's learning and to help with ongoing communication between home and school. More information will be coming regarding FreshGrade and you might start seeing invitation emails in your inbox from your child's classes. Please install the FreshGrade parent app and accept the invitations so that you can be up-to-date with the learning that is happening at Central Campus for your child. At the Open House we will have a support table to help you with any issues that we are able to help you with.
