Hello & Welcome
As an energy healer, I work with frequencies, energy and vibration. So for me, opening a bottle of Wild Orange blew my socks off. Something shifted in my cells and I instantly knew these oils were potent and powerful.
In fact I find them not only pristine, but clean and magical. Like my relationship with crystals and minerals, these oils talk to me. I work using my intuition and each day I am drawn to different blends or single oils, based on their colour, smell or emotional meaning. Or it's probably a case of them deciding to work with me!
In this guide, I'll share the core foundations, with the hope that you'll get the oily bug like me and 6 million others!
What are essential oils?
Essential oils are natural aromatic compounds found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers, and other parts of plants. They can be both exquisite and powerfully fragrant. If you have ever enjoyed the gift of a rose, a stroll by a field of lavender, or the aroma of freshly cut mint, you have experienced the aromatic qualities of essential oils.
Essential oils lift the mood, calm the senses and elicit powerful emotional responses. Yet the use of essential oils goes well beyond their fragrant charm.
Essential oils have been used throughout history in many cultures for their medicinal and therapeutic benefits. Modern trends toward more holistic approaches to self care and growing scientific validation of alternative health practices are driving a rediscovery of the profound health benefits of essential oils. Many have powerful cleansing properties and are naturally antimicrobial. Their unique chemical structure allows them to pass directly through the skin for immediate systemic response to topical application. Certain oils may even be used as dietary aids to promote vitality and well being.
Thanks to recent and ongoing research, there is a wealth of knowledge about the physical properties and actions of essential oils: their chemical make up, their action against specific bacteria and viruses, why certain oils are hazardous, how they enter the bloodstream, how the affect the various organs of the body, the mechanics of olfaction and even how the affect the brain.
The more pure the essential oil, the more powerful the results. Many essential oils available to purchase are not pure. Often, they contain fillers or other elements that dilute and alter the purity, thus diminishing the healthful qualities of the oil. In order to guarantee that the oils you use are pure, doTERRA and a team of highly skilled professionals formulated a successful testing procedure that qualifies doTERRA oils as uniquely pure and free of contaminants. This quality protocol is called CPTG Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade.®
Another crucial element in providing a quality essential oil is guaranteeing that there is maximum potency. For an essential oil to obtain a strong potency, the plant it originates from must be grown in the right environment. When plants are grown in optimal soil, temperature, and climate, they produce a higher quality of potency in the essential oil.
To maintain this level of potency, doTERRA networks with experienced farmers around the world that intimately know how to grow plants in their native environment. This process is called sourcing. The sourcing process ensures that plants are taken care of properly and harvested at the proper stage by growers who have generations of harvesting knowledge. Once the plants reach their prime, they are then gathered and carefully distilled by artisans, making oils that are potent, consistent, and pure.
Did you know...
In 22 seconds the molecules of essential oils reach our brain
In 2 minutes they will be found in the bloodstream
In 20 minutes they will affect every cell in the body
Putting oils on the soles of our feet is one of the quickest ways of getting oils into our bloodstream. The pores are larger and act like straws and suck up the oils.
What are we doing to our bodies and how can oils help...
When our diet consists of preservative, chemicals, sugars and artificial sweeteners, additives and fillers, our bodies are not able to process and digest the same way it would natural, organic material. It simply does not know how to work with these substances.
These inorganic materials in the body may lead to the development of allergies, skin sensitives, bacterial infections, and fungals infections to name few. For example, if you tend to eat large amounts of meat and the digestive tract is inflamed or doesn't have enough of the correct enzymes to digest those meats, it sits in the intestines. Over time, it begins to ferment creating an abundance of yeast and acidity in the body, causing Candida. There are many illnesses and ailments that are caused by things just as simple as eating an abundance of meat.
If you have made the decision to begin using 100%, pure therapeutic-grade essential oils, don't forget that your diet plays a large role in your body's well-being. We should constantly be aware of not only the amount of chemicals and food additives we are ingesting from our food and beverages but also the lotions, perfumes and other products that are harming to our bodies by way of chemical additives.
When we decide to treat illnesses or diseases with chemicals and foreign substances, our bodies do not know how to process them. Most man made medicines work to block receptor sites in the body, which helps to eliminate symptoms. The downside is that over time, those receptor sites can become unresponsive.
If you choose to introduce like substances, such as essential oils, our bodies are much more familiar with the process of breaking down and using these substances. Because they are like substances with our bodies, they can help return the body back to its natural, neutral state. By removing those unnatural substances, the body can regulate its receptor sites, eliminating symptoms in some cases.
100% pure, therapeutic-grade essential oils help cleanse the body of impurities and unnatural substances. Since essential oils are directly derived from plants, trees and flowers - and since we choose to use 100% pure, therapeutic-grade oils-the process in the body is seamless. The metabolic and assimilation processes become much more simple and balanced.
The Cleansing Process
When beginning to use essential oils, most individuals will experience a general cleansing process; some to a different degree than others. Since we are using 100% pure, therapeutic-grade, high potency essential oils, it is normal for some to experience a few minor sensitivities such as skin irritation or diarrhea in the beginning. The skin is a the largest organ of the body and some detoxifying processes will occur through the skin.
Likewise, there may also be loosening of the bowels due to an internal organ cleanse. Understand that these side effects are temporary and your body is just trying to cleanse the unnatural substances it has been harbouring.
Did you know...
The sense of smell is the first of all our senses to develop.
Women have a better sense of smell than men.
Citrus oils like lemon, orange, and grapefruit have been found to boost positive thoughts and enhance your mood.
Twenty-eight cups of peppermint tea is equal to one drop of peppermint essential oil.
When harvesting plants for essential oils, the time of year can significantly alter the smell.
Our Bodies - Living Organisms
Our bodies are just that; living organisms. On average, the adult human body of 50-65% water, while infants range from 75-78%.
Coincidentally, plants, trees and flowers are also living organisms and contain almost identical body composition making them like-substances with our bodies. Plants, trees and flowers have also developed and evolved through the same cultures, decades and ancestries as man, and have been used throughout history for medicinal purposes. We also share similar immune systems, digestive processes and have a similar response to bacterial infections. By using pure oils, they are likely to react in a faster, more cohesive manner with our body's natural processes.
Emotions & Essential Oils
Essential oils don’t just help on a physical level they also help with emotional balancing.
Three of my favourite oils are Rose "The oil of divine love". Rose oil holds a higher vibration that any other oil on the planet. It is a powerful healer of the heart. Clove "The oil of boundaries". As an Empath (someone who feels the energy of people, plants and the planet); having strong boundaries is important to keep us Empaths Empowered. Lastly, I love Bergamont "The oil of self acceptance". As someone who used to self-sabotage on a daily basis, I love partnering with Bergamot because it helps me anchor in new beliefs about myself.
Where do I BEGIN?
Essential oil use to intuitively simple and highly satisfying. However, with many oils available and countless combinations and wellness applications, it can be a bit overwhelming for beginners. As a simple first step on your journey with essential oils, the trio of Lavender, Lemon, and Peppermint is a great place to begin. As three of the most popular oils, they will provide you and your family a compelling experience with the life-enhancing properties of 100% pure therapeutic-grade essential oils.
