Emerging Interface Design DEV 1425 Sabrina Wood

Project 1: Research & Sketching

Students are given 6 app types to choose from (golf caddy, geocaching, healthy eating, fertility, car maintenance, or car pooling). After selecting which app they want to explore for the month, they then research 3 related apps to see what is on the market and determine how to set their app apart from the competition.

The constraints for the project is that it must work on a phone, tablet, and watch, and that they need to showcase the following features:

  1. confirmation or selection
  2. notification or alert
  3. custom icons
  4. data visualization

Project 2: Digital Wireframes

After researching and sketching the students then build their digital wires in either Adobe Illustrator or Adobe Experience Design. Below you can see an understanding of visual hierarchy, effective use of white space and using the grid for spatial continuity.

Project 3: Style Guide & Data Visualization

Now that the digital wireframes are built, the students create a style guide with standards for color, typography and imagery (icons, data visualization, etc.).

Project 4: Mobile Mockups and Website Ad

The last step is applying the style guide specifications to transform their wires into mockups.
