England Gap Year Month four (technically five)

It is crazy how fast my time has been going here in England. I seriously want it to slow down. So much is happening throughout the Tees Valley and it is exciting to be playing a part in it. As I write this, I'm reminded that this is technically my fifth month here as I've been here since July. There is only four updates as August, I did very little.

In all my time here, I can't help but be thankful for the freedom of my faith. I'm not being physically persecuted or in constant hiding. I am able to preach the gospel whenever and wherever I want. Not many of my Christian brothers and sisters can say the same. Please don't ever take the freedom to go to Church or read your Bible for granted.

New Castle United Game

During October Half Term, YFC as a team had the week off, and were given the chance to do a variety of activities. A group of us went to the Newcastle United Game one night, that was super fun to experience my first English football game. I also woke up at 3AM to watch the Spurs season opener this night, Go Spurs! The following day, we went bowling, rock climbing, and a movie. Overall it was great to spend time as a team doing different things and just having fun. We also got to take a Team trip somewhere. Axiom chose Castle Howard. It was such a beautiful place with so much history.

Axiom Trip to Castle Howard

The 5th of November, is a weird holiday they celebrate here. I still really haven't figured it out but basically there is a firework show all over England. It's a celebration of a guy trying and failing to blow up parliament. So why we celebrate with blowing up fireworks I don't understand.

For Thanksgiving, we had the annual YFC Hog Roast. We were blessed with the chance to have somewhat of a traditional Thanksgiving dinner before the Hog Roast. It was great to be together as a team sharing all that we're thankful for. Afterwards, it was work time. Each project had a board that we would stand by and get to share with host families and English people all that we do. They then were able to experience their own Thanksgiving but with Hog Roast. (weird, I know) From there we had a service where some youth shared how they have been impacted. Overall it was a great Thanksgiving with my English Family.

Volleyball Club is coming to an end soon! It's been a hard last couple Fridays as the kids just don't want to listen. I've struggled to go in excited to be there and wanting to be present. On the upside, the kids are showing improvement on their volleyball skills and are having fun. We just need them to listen the whole time.

Prayer Requests:

  • Please pray that we finish 2016 off strong. It is so easy to switch to lazy and off mode and forget while we're here.
  • Pray for teammates going home for the holidays. For safe travels and a great break with family.
  • Pray for teammates staying here. That homesickness is not serious and great times happen over break.
  • Pray for relationships. That Axiom continues to build them and grow in the ones created. For myself, that I continue to step out of my comfort zone in building relationships.
  • Camp of Champions! We are in serious planning mode for camp as we have a new lesson plan and are making it our own. Pray that Bibles will be donated to give kids the chance to grow in their faith if they make the decision to follow Jesus during Camp.
  • Pray for peace. A lot is happening and I have been stressing. Pray that I allow myself to rest in God and in His presence.

Will you pray about partnering with me?

As I mentioned, in my previous update the sun sets at 4pm now. Because of this a lot of fellowship takes place in coffee shops or restaurants. This puts me on a tight budget as almost all my meetings take place in the mentioned above. Will you pray fully consider donating once or monthly as I continue on in my gap year?

Will you consider partnering with Axiom as we try and get Bibles donated for Camp? We have a partnership with Lifeway, with this we would be able to buy a bulk of 100 Bibles for $5 a piece. It is easiest to donate money and for us to purchase them. We'd love to be able to give these kids their own Bible.

Thank you for following along as I do ministry in England. Stockton has my heart and I love what I am doing here. Although times can be rough, there's no place I'd want to be at this point in my life.

This song has been such an encouragement the last couple weeks! Hope you enjoy it!
