cool for the summer
What a summer it has been! Even throughout the break, HPS students and staff continued to demonstrate their love of learning by attending STEM summer camps and exploring the United States as scholars. We are #HarmonyProud of our students and staff commitment to foster the Harmony Core Values even during the off-season. Take a look at how HPS Austin stayed cool for the summer!
STEM Start the summer fun!
HPS Middle School students enjoyed the beginning of their summer at a Harmony Leadership STEM Camp chaperoned by Harmony Science Academy - Austin Teacher, Ms. King. Their five-day long stay at Camp All Saints in Pottsboro, TX was spent exploring the wetlands of Lake Texoma, studying Herpetology, and enjoying the outdoors.
UT DALLAS SUMMER STEM FUN!
Students were able to hear from guest lecturer Mr. Benjamin Brown, advisor to early stage growth companies and founders with product market fit in biotech, digital health, genomics and personalized medicine, clinical and diagnostic laboratories, and healthcare IT space.

Harmony Senior takes a byte out of UT computer science camp!
Harmony Science Academy - Pflugerville Senior Citlali was chosen to attend the University of Texas at Austin’s First Bytes Summer Computer Science Camp. The week-long overnight camp was held on campus and included field trips to computer science research labs, hands-on experiments, and team building activities. To learn more about the free camp, visit https://apps.cs.utexas.edu/camp/firstbytes
“The UT First Bytes camp was very fun. I was surprised that I was able to learn a new programming language in a matter of days. It was a great experience for me and was glad to be able to be in an environment of other girls who share the same interests as me.” - Citlali, HSAPf Senior
Elementary Students Love STEM with Camp Invention!
Camp Invention is an elementary summer science program at Harmony Science Academy - Cedar Park led by campus teachers Ms. McRae and Ms. Taylor. Each summer, the Camp Invention program changes theme to keep students engaged and allow them the opportunity to learn something new each cycle!
"The program challenges a child's creativity, innovation and problem-solving skills in fun and exciting ways." - Ms. Taylor
This year the students invented mini-mansions that used renewable energy, explored optic sensors with Optibots, and designed their own Robo-pet that visited the vet! That doesn't even include the daily challenges and activities. Camp Invention is a nationally recognized, non-profit elementary enrichment program sponsored by the National Inventors Hall of Fame. This is the second year for Camp Invention at HSACP.
The TEXANS Are Coming!
In May 2018, Harmony Public Schools Austin students from the Austin Mock Government program had the unique opportunity to transform their educational experiences by exploring Boston and our framer's historical contexts up close. During the last week of school, the club set out on an all encompassing five day excursion that captured the essence of New England. There were plenty of insightful discussions with political insiders including a private tour of the Senate President and Governor's office, colonial attractions, and of course---great food!
"Our students spent nearly a week in boston reliving the history of our democracy while experiencing the challenges of state and local GOVERNMENT. It proved to be an invaluable experience for them to broaden their horizons and compare their experiences in texas to those of students and lawmakers in MASSACHUSETTS." - Jeremy Lippart, HPS Teacher / club sponsor
hps Staff continue studying THROUGHOUT the summer
This summer, Mr. Jeremy Lippart, Harmony Science Academy - Pflugerville Social Studies Teacher, traveled to New York University to attend a week-long professional development seminar entitled “American Capitalism.” This highly competitive Gilder Lehrman Institute Seminar Led by renowned historian Dr. David B. Sicilia of the University of Maryland, is a rigorous seminar that explored the major issues in U.S. economic and business history from the 1860s to 2000.
"This is the third Gilder Lehrman Seminar I've attended and they are consistently the best professional development experiences. I had the chance to learn from world RENOWNED scholars for an intense week long seminar at New York University. As an affiliate school we (Harmony Science Academy Pflugerville) have access to a tremendous amount of resources provided by the Gilder Lehrman institute and I would encourage all teachers to consider taking advantage of the opportunity and attending one of these seminars if they have the chance." - Jeremy L. Lippart, HSAPf Teacher
