We decided to choose the fable “Of Chasity” as it carries a strong moral message and theme regarding to faith. Although the fable is not very well-known but there was spacious room to alter and adapt to the story while still explaining and teaching the audience moral lessons.

Describe your adaptation approach. Talk about how it mirrors the original and how it is different. Explain your stylistic approach.

Our group decided to create our Adaptation trailer inspired by the fable “Of Chasity”. In the original fable “Of Chasity”, the carpenter receives a white shirt. Every time he performs unfaithful actions to his wife, the white shirt becomes contaminated. Throughout our adaptation trailer, our main character- Felix is placed in a room covered with white sheets indicating the white shirt of the husband in the original fable. The strong message in the fable was morals of faith. Therefore in our trailer, the main character Felix is in the process of initiation for his belonging to a group. During the Initiation, he encounters a series of moral-testing tasks. Everytime he performs makes a wrong decision, an anonymous hand will pour gasoline onto him and contaminate his body and the walls of the white room. His wrong-doings are watched over by an initiator just like how in the original fable others can tell if the carpenter has performed unfaithful actions by the dirtiness of his white shirt.

What new skills and techniques did you acquire or refine during this project?

During this film, I learned a lot about using aperture and editing. I thoroughly learned about the different use for different aperture and f. stops in the SLR. Because during shooting, we worked with different lighting and focus, so changing the APERTURE and ISO was very crucial to the look. I learned that from our cinematographer kassy. I also learned how to apply filters to the videos through Adobe Lightroom and how to zoom and create the dolly-in effect in post-production using Adobe After Effects.

What is the coolest part of your film?

The coolest part of our film is after a lot of searching, we found a corner in the basement in our school that is mostly white and brightly lit. All of the initiation scenes were filmed in a mostly white room. In our visions, we wanted to create a purely white room. So with a lot of white fabrics, we worked very hard and put up white fabrics to the wall to cover up any coloured imperfections in order to create the cool and zoned-out white room. Throughout our film, the white room looked very pale and clean. It provides a chill and different world feel.

What does this experience inspire you to want to do next?

This experience inspires me to watch different versions of the same stories. For example, I know that many versions of the Cinderella story has been produced and created into movies. I would love to watch different versions of the same story and compare the differences in the director’s visions. I think it will be a very interesting comparison and experience.

"Intimate" is a comedy short submitted to the ZOOM festival. A dog named Harley dreams about being his human owner having a chicken dinner with a beautiful girlfriend.
A white-collar's morning routine incorporating a cup, spoon and pencil.

Colour palette: Cool blue tones

Style: hustling, fast-paced and LUXURIOUS

Character: Aubrey, 27 year old independent white-collared worker

This is my second film after joining the film arts class in grade 11. This project was a very valuable continuity lesson for me. The task was to create a correct version with zero continuity errors and a false version with several noticeable and subtle technical continuity errors.
